Any suggestions about things to ask/find out about? How can I make a good impression?

Should I wear a suit when I meet with him or a tie and blazer?

I want to dress appropriately but also don't want to come off the wrong way.

I wouldnt wear a jacket/blazer, too formal....just wear a dress shirt, trousers, tucked in obviously

Will a lot of schools do this? Do you just need to call and set it up?

not sure, but in my opinion, they seem like very busy people. If anything, try contacting one of the assistant dean of admissions. Won't hurt you by shooting an email or calling. Man-up

At my state school, I was shot down on my first attempt and was given the opportunity to meet with the Dean of Medical Student Affairs. It was fairly casual (definitely not a suit/tie affair). He had me start off by explaining my interest in medicine and what my goals were. He then went on to explain how the Adcom process worked and what their major selection criteria was and where I might be lacking. Also he told me it would be worth giving another shot and that it would be noted that I met with him in my next application.

It was worth the hour. I already knew what my weaker areas were, but after talking to the dean it helped me re-write my personal statement so that next year's Adcom would know who I was and where my drive for medicine came from. And those tweaks worked--I want from flat-out rejection to accepted!

Good luck!
