I searched this forum for discussions on Meharry dental school but most if not all of them were related to interview questions. So I searched Meharry Medical School on SDN which has both positive and negative comments about the school.

1. Can anyone comment on the quality of Meharry dental school, dental facilities, etc.
2. How does Meharry compare with University of Tennessee dental school, which is located about 2 hours away from Meharry.

  • Meharry Dental School has two graduate programs: General dentistry residency and oral maxillofacial surgery residency.
  • On the medical forum, the current Meharry medical students reported that certain professors from Vanderbilt taught few of their medical classes.

I believe that Meharry is a great school. Though I must corrrect you, Meharry is not located next to Vandy but it wouldnt take you more than 10 minutes to get there by car. I dont know much about the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance, but I think it is more of a medical association vs. dental. Meharry's dental school recently received a perfect accreditation review, no marks or issues against the school. There is also a new diagnostic imaging lab currently being built. The staff is very supportive and it really has a family environment. UT dental is great as well, I actually live in Memphis, and thru my interaction with current students and meeting the dean gave me a favorable impression. Hope this helps🙂
Are you applying to Meharry?

Hey, thanks for the response. Yes I applied there, I heard good things about the school from others myself.

I always heard that MeHarry is a bad choice of school to attend. Is it true that it's the worse of bunch?

That's understandable, but if you do not have evidence or data to show why it is a bad choice then that statement is merely an opinion. So go ahead search online and use your resources to prove what you heard is correct to all of us.

Damn homegirl... I was just asking a question. No need to get your panties all bunched up!!

I'm calm as I can be. I was just asking you to "add" onto this thread with good data. Good data meaning accurate data which makes the school look good or bad. Remember, I am the one who started this thread and asked about the school in the first place.
If someone throws out board pass rates, specializing rate, etc. low or high, that would be great, we just want to know something! or at least I do.

I interviewed at Meharry last year, they said that their Board 1 is 85%, which is slightly lower than the nation

I have my first interview at Meharry coming up on Nov 21. I'm glad that's the first school I'm going to because I heard everyone is very friendly. I think they like the idea that I have some military service. I saw alot of alumni on their website have served before. There was not that much interview feedback but I've been doing broad searches for any and every question that might come up. I'm probably overdoing it but I've noticed even if u dont know exactly what you are going to say, its still nice to now you've seen the question before. Any advice about not being so nervous.:scared:

No need to research questions, just research your application. They will ask you to expand upon whatever things you have put down in your application...IF a question comes up that is off the topic of dentistry, it's aight to not know. Everything does not interest you, so you won't know everything. And the nerves will be there, its just natural, try to make your interview more of a conversation instead of an interrogation, and you will forget that you are nervous....best of luck!!

thanks for the advice. I'll look over my application and supplemental. I think once the first interview is over it will seem a lot less stressful.
