hello all.....

Some of you might remember me from earlier this year when I was waiting to hear back from Meharry about the post bacc program. I was accepted and I am in the program now. If anyone would like to know any info about Meharry or the program, just ask. Sometimes you need specific information to make decisions in the future, so I'm open for questions. However, I will answer a couple of questions now before it is asked.
1.How do you get into this program? You don't apply for this program, but you are selected based on several factors that I am not aware of; either your DAT was low or your GPA was low or they were both marginal, but this is all based on my observations.
2. How long is it and what do you do? It is a 12 month program in which we are taking courses throughout the year, like Biochem, Cell Bio, Neuro, A&P. Along with these courses, we have to prepare to take the DAT over again in April of next year, so we are enrolled in DAT prep courses.
3.Can you matriculate in with the first year class in the following year? Yes, if you maintain 3.0 cumlative gpa and make 16 or higher on DAT in every section. You also have to attend all seminars, meetings, individual conferences with directors, and display professionalism at all times. Basically, if you do what you are suppose to, then your seat is waiting for you in the next upcoming class.

Best wishes to all,
Psalmer😀

Best of luck to you. Meharry is a great school!!

Hey. I received an email today inviting me for an interview into the Post Bacc. Program. I responded quick, and now I just want to know how long it was until you got a response, and also what was the interview like? What are some do's and don'ts?

If you can, please respond to my personal email because I don't check this site often at: [email protected], that will be greatly appreciated.

Also, how do you like the program so far? Is it challenging, is it worth it? How much does it cost?

I am really excited...I am super surprised to even get this much. My GPA and DAT weren't that great...so pardon me for being so pressed.

Thanks.

How many people generally interview for Meharry's postbacc program?

congrats! Is there anyone in the class who already had a DAT score above 16 across the board? I just got invited for a post-bac interview (and I very much want to go to meharry) but I am a little confused because I got an 18 AA and a 20 PAT. I'll take whatever I can get, but I as wondering why the post-bac program?

If I haven't heard back from Meharry regarding my dental school application (I applied in middle of Nov) and I haven't been invited to an interview for the post bac, is it pretty much assumed I won't get in to either? I wanted to contact the school and ask about their post bac, but it sounds like if you don't get an invite, you should just forget it....does this sound about right? Has anyone received a rejection letter from Meharry yet?
thanks

hey guys,

take the post bac program because you are probably gaurantee a spot in the next cycle. The post bac is for student who they feel like there is a lower score range with family issue, and only a select few have a chance at their post bac.

I just interview with Meharry last week and already receive a rejection letter. I was wondering if anyone else is in the same situtation that I am in. Let me know.

I was wondering if the post-bac classes where held on Meharry's campus or at TSU.And are you in class with the med post bac students as well.

The post bac classes are held at Meharry and you will take all but one class and Princeton Review with the medical post bac students. Also, you will have to take the DAT again (probably before April 14 of next year) and have to make the minimum score.

Someone earlier mentioned about having an 18 DAT...that is not the only thing considered. Your GPA and full application/transcripts are also considered. Another thing, PAT is not included in your AA. Having a good score in that section is excellent, but EVERYTHING (other DAT sections, and like stated earlier GPA and items on your transcript) is considered.

I was just wondering, what type of GPA do they usually look at for Postbac programs such as Meharry's? sub 3.0 (e.g 2.7) or at least 3.0?

Has anyone heard back from Meharry SOD about the post bac program for this 2009 cyle. Accepted/rejected/ waitlisted???:xf:

Yes I've heard something from Meharry, and I've been waitlisted!!! As far as I've been told from people who's friends also interviewed for post-bacc that they got done with folks that last week of March...They probably are done rejecting people, (as I can see on this forum, I do feel bad for you hopefully another school you applied to will take you and if not don't give up!!! 🙂 ) waitlisting people (they have no spot order) but from what I've been figuring out is that they HAVEN'T ACCEPTED PEOPLE YET!! How did I come to this conclusion is that there are folks that have been put on their interim list. These people won't know nothing until April 30 or after on if they are rejected, waitlisted, or accepted (they could be accepted into the freshman class or post bacc). And from what I've seen on other forums that being waitlisted is not a bad thing and that we may get a seat in their post bacc (cause some folks are dropping out, because they got in at other schools are just did for what ever reason)!!! So until the interim people have been figured out we won't know nothing for a while!!! But if your waitlisted then make sure final grades look good cause they do want to know how your set of final class grades go cause that can be a major factor on you getting in!!! Hope this information helps!!!

Thanks that really helped. I am on interim status and the wait is kiiling me I hope to hear some good news soon..

Yes I have heard something. At first I found out I was interim reccomended, then on the 9th, the same day I graduated undergrad, I got the letter saying I wasn't accepted. Sucks for me, I'm just a Lil bitter that I spent all that money and time to get to the interview to be lead on for the few spots amoungst the large amount of people the interviewed for the program. Nonetheless, they have contacted applicants.

So do u enjoy the program since u have been in it. Plus how many students get into the post back program. And when does meharry stop giving out interviews

are there any other programs like meharry that allow you to gain entrance in the next year provided you keep good grades and wat not?

Check out UCONN, Boston University and I believe Tufts. They all have post bac that guarantee you will get in if you meet their requirements.

Has anyone heard any additional news on the postbac program? i.e. interview dates?

still waiting to hear back for an interview date..just resent my confirmation to Ms. Connolly

Its going to be a while...my interview last year was around middle April...so you can sit back...don't start packing yet.

I believe they wait until they fill their dental class then start interviewing for the Post Bacc...cause you're getting the same crew that interviews for dental admissions.

Hey guys, I finally heard from Meharry yesterday. 😀 My interview date is 3/10...Let me know if anyone has the same date 🙂

I have an interview on March 10 as well 🙂 Congrats and good luck.

anyone interviewing March 12 for postbac program hit me up please...

I'll make sure to write about my experience after my interview. What are you guys doing to prepare?

I have a D1 friend there and friend that interviewed earlier this year I will talk to for tips....... I'll let you know what they say

So quick question. If you have an interview in March 2010 is this only for the post-bac program or Dental school. And if for the post back program is their anyway they would change their mind towards putting u in the regular program.

I'm not 100% sure. but from my understanding if you're being consideration for dental school itself you are interviewed, and wait-listed (someone correct me if I'm wrong). And I have no clue weather they do post-bac and dental school interviews together.

my interview date is set for march 17th!

thanks congrats to you as well drprettysmile!

good luck and congrats to you as well truebeliever!

Hi everyone. I was just wondering did anyone recieve a confirmation of reciept of the form we were to fax? Or did anyone recieve any further instructions after faxing the form? Just curious to know since I was not able to contact anyone in admissions.

I called the Admissions office to see if they received the fax and they said just as long as the fax printed off confirmation that it was sent, that it was received. I hope that answered your question.:luck:

Yeah, I feel you on that one. I'm going to call the office one more time. Hopefully I won't be showing up for my interview for nothing. That would be hilarious! Congrats on your interview! You are going to do fantastic! :highfive::highfive:
