Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the "law of independence segregation" and the "law of independence assortment"? Also, it would be nice if anyone could give me an example too, since I am a slower learner. Thanks! 🙂

I believe the law of independent assortment states alleles in nonhomologous chromosomes separate during gametogenesis, while the law of segregation states alleles in homologous chromosomes separate during gametogenesis. correct me if I am wrong.

This is correct.

The Law of Segregation states that the gametes of a parent cell each receive one copy of the alleles. For example, XY parent normally produces an X or Y gamete, not a XY gamete or a null gamete.

The Law of Independent Assortment states that nonhomologous chromosomes assort independently of one another. For example, AaBb parent can produce AB, Ab, aB, ab gametes in equal probability
