I was just wondering if it's more common for men to wear scrub tops with a tshirt/undershirt of some kind or just the scrub top and nothing else under it? At my job as a vet assistant I wear a tshirt under my scrubs but there are no other male vet assistants so I'm not sure if this is the norm or not. I assume it's probably just preference and also depends on how low the neck is on the top.

Fellow guys, what do you prefer? And anyone else, what do you see the most/what looks best?

I wear a t-shirt underneath my scrub top. gender aside, it seems like everyone at the clinics I shadow wears something under their scrub top. For me its more comfortable, plus my tops are v-necks and I would be showing a lot of chest hair if I didn't wear anything underneath.

I don't wear anything under my scrub top (female) unless it's cold in the clinic - I rather wear and extra layer under the top than over it. Should you? I say whichever is more comfortable for you.

Yeah the chest hair is also a concern of mine so I might stick with the tshirt underneath.

I'm going on a two week study aboard trip to Belize to get large animal experience and I'm concerned I'm going to be super hot wearing two layers (humid and in the high 90s daily there). I guess I will just see how I feel and adjust accordingly.

The one male vet at the clinic I work at always wears tshirts under a scrub top. And he always has a set of scrub tops that he only wears during surgery/dental procedures and then changes back into the other scrub top for regular exams/appointments. I think it is all dependent on what your comfortable with and how casual the clinic is.

Maybe some moisture-wicking athletic tshirts might be good for that?

Those scrubs look like designer/custom scrubs to me. Clearly not a poor vet student/doctor.
They're Grey's Anatomy scrubs. Duh.

(Which are just expensive enough that I'm glad all the sets I have were gifts)

I know that Grey's anatomy exists, and thankfully that is all I know about it (except the commercials I see for the show convince me it is horrible, just horrible. ).

It's the lovely soft material. Doesn't bother me though. I just go through a lot of lint rollers at work...
I'm the same way. I love them (especially the colors!!) so I deal with fur. I found a 12 pack of full sized lint rollers for like $2.50 at target, so naturally I bought 20

Not only do I not wear anything under my scrubs, I cut a deeper v at the chest so my manly chest hair coolooan wave luxuriously as I strut through the treatment area shouting orders.
You gotta do what you have to do to establish yourself as a manly man in an increasingly female career field.

This! There's a reason why my clinic has like 5+ lint rollers out at a time!

I always wear a tank under my scrubs, but that's because I've had a few situations where I've needed to take my scrub top off and change to a new one quickly. The bathrooms in my clinic are extremely inconvenient to go to, so wearing a tank top makes things easier. Both males and females in my clinic seem to wear something else under. Our clinic is also freezing though so heat isn't a problem. When I volunteered abroad I didn't wear anything under because it was just too hot in Nicaragua. I think you'd be fine either way, neither will be "weird."

Am I the only one who hates grey's anatomy scrubs? I have one pair which is now my emergency back up pair that I hope to never wear again.

That's how I feel about my pair of Cherokee scrubs. I wear them only when I have nothing else clean and no time to do laundry.

Regular Cherokee or Cherokee luxe? I have a Cherokee scrub top and it's cheaply made, but I have a full set of Cherokee luxe's and I love them.

Ha, that's funny. I'm wearing cherokee scrubs today! They're the pro-flexibles kind though, not the scratchy non-stretchy ones. Allure by White Cross is my definite favorite, though.

To the OP, I don't think it's weird for men to wear them either way, with or without a t-shirt. I see both all the time. Do whatever makes you comfortable.

love my cherokee workwear scrubs. So much better than many other scrubs I have owned.

I always wore a t-shirt underneath my scrubs. Rare was the dude that didn't, and they usually fell into two camps: guys that were in good shape and were walking embodiments of The Todd, and older docs and such that just didn't give a ****. I'd say 95% of guys wore an undershirt of some sort.

This applies to the human side of things, but I doubt things change much because of patient populations.

For the guy end of things, I really like Cherokees. They aren't as baggy as most other brands make their unisex fits, which makes them look a lot less sloppy. They've also got numerous side pockets on their pants, which are tough to come by in many other brands' decent lines (Medline, for instance, in which the only pants that had cargo pockets for carrying instruments and stuff had elastic waistbands, which annoy the crap out of me and I just can't use).

Yeah, think it's just you. I used to roll my eyes at them because I'm super duper cheap, got sucked in by a sale a couple months ago on Amazon, and now would really love to own only that brand. Sooo freaking soft and swishy.

My only complaint is that the particular top I got has a front chest pocket and I think those are pretty much just a joke for women with any sort of boobs. Gotta do cargos and the two front lower pockets.

I used to wear just a t-shirt underneath but then switched to a long-sleeve shirt. Helps a lot with the scratchers (especially those damn pugs...)!

This is pretty much how I feel about my Cherokee scrubs! They aren't meant for girls with boobs, at least in my experience. I have the "workwear core stretch mock wrap top." And a pair of workwear drawstring cargo pants. I find that the sizing is either ridiculously baggy if I want them to fit in the chest or a bit tight up top if I want them to fit elsewhere. Pockets and quality are great, the sizing just kills me. The pants are also good quality but I feel like they are always falling down, even if I tie the drawstring super tight and double knot it. I know lots of girls in my clinic love them, they just aren't my favorites.

Wonder wink scrubs though-- I loveeee my two pairs.

I'm wondering if I should do this right off the bat, I have a sleeve tattoo.

I don't really care, but it's not always about what I think. I did peruse the piercing and tattoo thread, but still.

Obviously, the anatomy of nipples are different between men and women (and maybe it's not a problem unless you have manboobs), but does the scrub material not cause chafing without wearing a shirt underneath?

Cause for cereal, the one time I ran out of laundry, I wore a scrub top without a bra while doing stuff around the house, and holy hell. By the time I realized it it was way too late. It burned for days.

I know they sell anti-chafing stuff for protecting nipples from friction when they are bare under a shirt, and I think it was originally intended for male runners - they don't wear a bra but the shirt bounces as they run, which can cause friction burns.

The one time I didn't wear a bra, I had the Grey's Anatomy scrubs on, and they were fine. Nothing too bad. But then again, I wear a bra 98% of the time.

Maybe you have nipples of steel. I keep around a bunch of grey's anatomy scrubs for the non-work vet stuff I do, and I really don't think it makes a difference.

Yeah you cray 😛

Nah, idk, mine just happen to fit me really well and be super comfy. I have a pair of cherokees that I used to hate but I love now. Everybody has their preferences 😀

****ing despise Medline :yeahright: Too bad that's the brand they want us to wear at work...

Does your PM make you guys wear the uniform ones? We can wear any brand we want at ours as long as we wear either all navy or all ceil. The provided uniforms are horrid.

One of the higher ups was visiting one day and a VA happened to be wearing mismatched scrubs so they instituted a new policy for our market (or maybe just our location, idk) to wear the provided ones or ones ordered through them only. I'm not following it because I'll only be there another month but on days where the medical director or whoever is visiting we have to wear them.

Ewwww. That's awful. The women's "modesty" scrubs crack me up. Those are the ones my PM orders for new hires, I wore them once before I went and bought new ones on my own. I think my pants could have stood up on their own they were so stiff and uncomfortable.

I ordered a navy pair myself from the website they want us to use, and those aren't too bad, but omg the ones I got when I was hired...so ****ty.

it was that way in this market, too.
