Hi everyone

I am trying to get a nice routine to do everyday to sharpen up on my mental math for the DAT. I am not bad at mental math i just figure better mental math will help me speed up my test taking and help me make fewer mistakes.

I was thinking of going and looking for some online based math game.

Anyone have a rountine to help mental math thats worked well for them.

any good games?

Not sure how long you have til your test date, but what I do to keep my mental math sharp is when calculating any form of tip when going out. When you eat out lunch/dinner calculate in your head what 10%, 15%, and 20% tip would be. Calculate approx what 8.75% tax would be and check your answers. When getting any form of change calculate what your change will be before the cashier gives it to you. If you have time add 25 cents and check how that would change what you get back. It sounds so simple, but I swear it's made me so quick when it came to basic math and percentages which I think helps a LOT on the DAT in QR especially since it seems like a lot of ppl these days lack in speed on that area. Just a suggestion of what I did hope it helps!

i bought GRE mathworkout books for the DAT. those were the best help i think. destroyer also helped a lot, but some of the stuff in destroyer is too hard and you dont need to know all of it.

on my DAT, a lot of the math was easy but then there were just a few crazy hard questions that seemed to come from out of nowhere.

A friend gave me the book "Train Your Brain" by Dr Kawashima, MD. It's a 60 days math practice that you do to improve your calculations. It's all basic calculations and you can improve your skills by as much as 20% based on his research in Japan.

Isn't like 9 out of 7 people struggles with math? Well, I need to start on that book ASAP!

Being good at mental math helped me immensely on the DAT. To practice, I sort of did what some of the posters above recommend, calculate tips in my head, total the groceries and all. Another thing that helped was taking a bunch of practice math tests, I mostly used old GRE tests (there are a lot of sample tests online) and if you want to practice on paper buy an older edition GRE test prep book from amazon.................I think I paid a $1 + shipping for one.
