Esteemed buddies:
I'm writing my PS right now and I'm wondering if I can show my strong interest in one specialty. I have a phd in cardiac regenerative medicine where I devised a bioreactor for cardiac tissue engineering and I'm currently a postdoc working on cardiac tissue engineering scaffold, given these, mending the heart is a big motivation for me to enter medicine... so can I say that I want to be a cardiologist/cardiac surgeon in my essay? Or it's a taboo that shows an immature determination when you claim you want to be in a particular specialty?
Thanks a bunch!

I think that since you've been working in the field for a while that it isn't a passing fancy. If it's such a big part of your experience to date, I don't see why it would be immature to think you'll end up in either cardiology/CT surg

Certainly if you were planning to pursue something like family medicine I would mention it, however, typically "another person that wants to go into cardiology" wouldn't be something you would necessarily want to put in. Your case is different in that you have a solid reason why you are interested. I would state your interest but give a qualifier something along the lines of "while I plan to keep an open mind my previous interests have made me extremely interested in cardiology"

Agree. You have a PhD in a cardiology field and have a lot of experience. Is say your interest is justified and not a whimsical statement.

Given your context, I'd be OK with it.
