hi guys! was wondering what ya'lls take was on this situation...

so i am applying to both MD and DO schools but due to the fact that my boyfriend of 2+ yrs lives in phoenix AZCOM is pretty much my top choice. I have a 30/3.5 so I feel confident about interviewing there.

should i mention this fact in my interview, if I get one? like something along the lines of mentioning that of course irregardless i would love azcom and love to go there, but the fact that my SO lives there makes the situation one in which i could guarantee matriculation if i was accepted, pretty much?

or do i not mention that at all?

If I were to mention anything to them, I would just say fiancee instead of boyfriend. I don't think you are engaged, but I think this will be a stronger case.

i know i feel dumb saying bf...so say fiancee...should i buy a 2 karat cubic zirconia ring to wear? 😉

hmm do you think that will fool them? 😀

just my opinion 😉 , I don't think that would be a good idea. Most likely they will ask you "why azcom?" mentioning all the good qualities of azcom and throwing in that your bf lives there would be lame right? i think so  . Not to mention it can possibly make you vulnerable to other personal questions that you may not want to answer or prepared to answer (i.e. some crazy relationship questions, what if your bf moves or breaks up with you, how will you handle med school, etc...you get the idea)

I would say something like this:
"My interest is AZCOM is two fold. I think that I will get a superior here (embellish with specifics) and also that I will have a good support system with my bf/fiance living close by"

a local support network is a great reason to go to school somewhere. how a candidate has handled pressure in the past and how they are set up to cope with it during school are common questions for applicants. use it.

i agree with the fiancee thing. that will make it a stronger case. to put the icing on the cake, tell them you are also pregnant with his child.

Hi,

At my MSUCOM interview, I told my interviewer that one of the many reasons I was interested in MSUCOM was that my bf of 3+ yrs would be going to law school in Lansing and I wanted to stay near him. I got in no problem -- at your interview, I'd say your bf is your longtime bf, no need for the 25 cent ring.

yeah, i said long-term boyfriend too and got in no problem. i dont think you should lie in any interview, probably just because i'm nervous. if you combine long term boyfriend and qualities of the school, i thnk that's perfect

If other things such as rec, volunteer etc are good to go along with your 30/3.5, you probably can get in to azcom. Why even mention bf in your interview to complicate things? I won't if I were you. Just like the other poster points out, you might invite the interviewer to dig into your privacy.

if you mention something about your b/f def say long-term b/f. when i mentioned my g/f in the interview they asked "God forbid things didn't work out with you two...but if it didn't how would that effect you?" be ready to answer that question. by saying fiancee you can almost avoid that question.

First off, i think a ring pop is much more appropriate than the afformentioned suggestions. Secondaly, if you humbly mention that you have close friends and a boyfriend in the area and that you are confident this will help you transition to living there and support you, that in essence is the truth and sounds fine. Mentioning the other friends will stop them from asking the whole break up thing, bc it makes u seem less dependent on ur bf, while mentioning him sounds like u have someone close nearby.
