I was wondering if there is any harm done by mentioning my religion in my secondary.
For instance, some schools ask about serving others. My desire to serve others mainly came from my religious values. I'm wondering if it'll be looked at differently if I mention that in my secondary to school without any religious affiliations.

thank you 🙂

I went in depth about a particular philosophy I study and live by. It guides almost every action or thought I have and was too important to leave out, especially for the adversity essay. I too struggled with how others will perceive it but I decided to keep it. I say go for it! Medicine respects all religions and ways of life (or at least it should).

FWIW I chose not to disclose my religious background to secular schools, but felt free and more comfortable to mention it in secondary essays for a school that shares my religious affiliation. I got an II, so that went well with them, I guess. Putting down volunteer work at my local parish gives all the schools some hint at that aspect of my identity, though.

I was hesitant at first but then decided it was a large part of my identity and that if I didn't get into a school because of my religion then I justify it by telling myself I probably wouldn't have liked it there anyways.

Aside from non-Christian religions at highly religous schools (Loma Linda and Liberty) I can’t see this ever being an issue.
My faith based service was a big part of my application and it seemed to be well received at every school that asked about it.

Probably depends on what the religion is. I'm sure scientology, Satanism, and some others wouldn't be favorably viewed.
