Mercer 2007
Started by prem_baba
I got a letter from Mercer saying they are not ready to make a decision yet. Has anyone got accepted for fall 2007 yet from Mercer? or been rejected? or gotten a littler like mine?
Just FYI for you and the other posters in the interview thread, Mercer got over 2200 applications last year for 147 seats, so rolling admissions doesn't mean first-come-first serve - they can be competitive with an applicant pool that large.
Also, I would assume that there is a lot of movement later in the spring with the waitlisted folks, since UGA doesn't send out acceptance letters until sometime in spring (forget when - I didn't apply there). A lot of people apply to both Mercer and UGA, and then some end up giving up their deposit and seat when they get into UGA.

I also got the same letter 🙁 Has anyone been rejected or have all the rejects been given the "not ready to make a decision" letter?
hey... certainly getting a letter that's telling us to wait does not mean that we are rejected!!!! lol - if they did not think you were qualified -- you would have gotten a rejection letter! perhaps they are awaiting fall 2006 grades or pcat scores or checking out the competion!I also got the same letter 🙁 Has anyone been rejected or have all the rejects been given the "not ready to make a decision" letter?
Well good luck with the PCAT. My letter did not state anything except for the fact that they require more time.
"gchiq84": is your case the same a mine? or did they specifically say that they want PCAT score?
no, my pcat is great, but my GPA stinks (3.2)... all my letter says is that "We are not ready at this time to make a decision. I can assure you that your request for admission is still under serious consideration. You will be notified when further action is taken."
Have they flat out rejected anyone yet?
word up... that's what my letter states too :-/no, my pcat is great, but my GPA stinks (3.2)... all my letter says is that "We are not ready at this time to make a decision. i am thinking of calling them to find out why the wait? but I don't want to sound annoying! lol - I really liked the school! and it's Atlanta!!!

yeah, me too. if they were just waiting for fall grades, wouldn't they tell us in the letter. I am curious to know exactly what they are waiting for.😕
so did you call them? I have not... b/c after reading what people have said here.. I am guessing there is truth to the matter. I am not Early-decision.. and so I am guessing they will take their time with mine. Let me know what you found out if you have called them...yeah, me too. if they were just waiting for fall grades, wouldn't they tell us in the letter. Mercer's deadline is Jan 5. That's pretty darn late. Logic says they're going to wait for those who just took the pcat to get their scores. I'm also applying there so good luck, all.
For all those "waitlisters" for mercer, i hope this is encouraging.
g.p.a. - 3.34
pcat - 80
My academic stats are on the low end of competitive, but I just got accepted into Mercer. Someone commented on the people who eat their deposit to go to UGA and other state schools, it happens every year.

prem_baba when did u apply? cause i was planning to submit my application in dec......do u think it'll be too late?

I did some volunteer work in a hospital IV room, and I sent my application in around June. Thankfully, their are schools out their that understand that grades are not the only things that make a good pharmacist.

exactly how many hrs?? cause i have like ard 120 hrs of voluntering at hosp pharm or so? WOULD IT BE ENOUGH

I think your missing the point man. It's not just about how many hours in a pharmacy one has, it's about character, maturity, direction, innovation, confidence, and so forth......Their not going to make their decision based on how many hours in a pharmacy you have. I did about 100 hours in a hospital, but I guarantee you that's not what got me accepted.
So no flat out rejects? I got the " we'd like to see a new pcat score"

Hey Zakhstern, do you have your bachelor's degree? I know that makes you a little more competitive for Mercer😉
Sure do, I'll be graduating this spring with a degree in Exercise Physiology (and might I add, It's a damn cool major).
Exercise Physiology is cool. In my PHD program ,there is another close PhD in biomath, and this person also has a degree in it.
Zakstern, I think the reason you got into Mercer is the following:
You are PILLS president at Florida State. How can you be any more involved extracurricularly related to pharmacy than that?
Your major is really unusual and quite cool, on top of finishing that! And it is useful in real life. Obesity is a big problem in the U.S. and if we understand what different types of exercise does on the body then maybe we can suggest regimens for lowering people's weight. On top of that, going to pharmacy school could help Zakstern understand the drugs for treating obesity and how they work! So that is a perfect personal statement, and the intertwining of Exercise Physiology and pharmacy.
Now, if you were on the admission committee, wouldn't you want someone in your class that is really interesting like that than a person with straight A+'s and nothing else!
Well, that is just my opinion.

I'm not sure if you guys have read this page on Mercer's website, but it gives an explanation of all of the letters they send out:

hope this helps to calm some nerves 🙂

I got the same thing - at least were not rejected yet =) theres still hope
I know, Thank God because I really want to go to Mercer!!!
I got a letter saying that I needed to submit another PCAT Score (and I made an 85 in June), also waiting on my fall grades (although I've completed all pre-pharmacy requirements prior to this semester). That is some crazy bull!! How high do they want my freaking PCAT to be??

Why do people want to go to Mercer so much more than another school? It is very, very expensive and you are easily about $120,000 in debt when you are done.
If Mercer wants a 90 and over PCAT and a 3.8, apply to your state school.
I have previous materials and the average PCAT of those who get in are 75 and the average GPA is 3.5, but they put a big emphasis on pharmacy experiecne and extracurricular activities more so than other programs.
I would call Mercer whoever has the 85 and if that person's GPA is above 3.5, then I would ask them if PCAT is really a problem, or is it something else. The letter could be a total mistake anyway. Call and e-mail them.

I had my appication put on hold, and i do not know waht that means?? I am thinking about calling them to ask them what they are waiting for, because i already have my degree and have not taken teh pcat after my interivew? I was wondering if anyone even got denied, i heard that soem people from my interview session have already got admitted. i really wanted to go there, but now i do not know if i will get in 🙁
is this after the interview? cause i just got an email that my apps barely complete. i'm way behind schedule. i'm crossing my fingers and hope that somehow, my pcat scores are up there cause i know for damn sure, i %%%% up on my essay on the test.

See, that's funny--I feel REALLY good about the essay--I write really well--not to brag or anything--it's just what I'm good at it--it's the Math and Chemistry that I'm worried most about--especially the Math. I think I majored in the wrong field--I should try to write a novel or something!

When you say that they said your app is barely complete, what does that mean? You didn't finish your application before you submitted it?😕
i just added that word "barely" myself, since they just receive it. I can't wait to see the pcat score, i didn't study for it so i'm not expecting spectacular scores. And the essay, i was "brain dead" by the time we have to write the essay. It must have been the worst essay i wrote in my life.

I actually emailed Mercer last week because I got a letter about resubmitting a new PCAT score, and they told me that they would be evaluating files again on Tuesday, Dec 12 since they have recieved the new scores. She also said I should know something by the 18th. Scary.
oy...that means i should be hearing a decision soon since i interviewed there a little over a week ago...*crosses fingers*
For those of you that received the "we are not ready to make a decision letter", was this after you interviewed, or was it their first contact with you after you submitted your application?
after the interview
after the interview
That was what I was worried about, I have an interview coming up in Jan, and it is costing quite a bit of money. I feel that the letter they send out is just a nice way of saying: we'll keep you around in case nothing better shows up. My stats are not that high, and I am thinking that there is a high chance I will recieve that same letter.
Also, once you are granted an interview, does this mean they no longer consider numbers?

I have heard that Mercer is really big on the interview, and even if you have high stats, and you're not very personable in the interview (and not just to the interveiwer, the whole time), they won't accept you initially. I got the "we're waiting for something better" letter from South, and while it is very discouraging, don't give up all hope! I read somewhere that about 30% of people in an entering class get the deferred letter. Also, Mercer is a lot of people's UGA backup. And there were a lot of people at my interview from Kentucky, who were no doubt applying to several schools. Seriously, don't give up hope!
Does Mercer ever decline anyone's application, or do they just say "we are waiting to see your grades, pcat scores, or we just aren't ready to make a decision yet" until the class is filled up? Just wondering because everyone seems to be getting the same letter.

Thats a good question, I wonder if they sent rejection letters out yet. If not, then they must love to keep others hopes up high..
