oops. never mind. i guess they changed it this year. it was in january two years ago.

Deepfry, I PMed you.

Anybody else got the low-down on Mercer?

ramonmcguire is correct. Mercer doesn't begin interviews until January...at least that's what they told me on the phone.

I was offered an interview for 11/21/02, but chose to wait until 12/10/02. The admissions committee does not meet until January to begin making decisions on who to accept/reject/waitlist.

Congrats on the phone call! Best of luck at the interview! 🙂

Wendy

Wendy926,

Thanks for throwing a little sunshine my way!😛
Also, I PMed you.

I received the call the other day as well. I was also offered an interview on 11/21/02, but I chose to interview on 11/26/02. It is my 1st interview! Any advice or comments are welcome, and does anyone think that a later interview (closer to the time of admissions selection) is better? Too late now!!!

The two things that I think are most important are to know
1) Why medicine? & 2) Why Mercer? Prepare responses to these two questions so that they come across smooth in the interviews. Also, be very honest in your responses to all other questions (Oh yeah, except what specialty? Remember: you want to practice GP in the Okeefenokee Swamp! 😉 ). Seriously, if you don't think you want to practice primary care, at least say that you are undecided as to what specialty you want to practice and that you are open to potentially practicing in primary care. Good luck and let me know how it goes (and fill out a responce on the interview feedback portion of this website) cause I'll be visiting not long after you.

Any more news on Mercer? Any interviews since November or any scheduled for January? I believe the adcom holds their first meeting Jan. 27.

I received a phone call invitation to interview there last week and am scheduled to interview Jan 16

I think they're on a Tuesday/Thursday interview schedule. All the dates I've heard for January are on Tuesday or Thursday.

Got the call yesterday...i'm interview on Jan 23...anyone else for that date?

Yeah, they are on a tue/thurs interview schedule, and they meet sometime middle of January (Jan. 16,23 sounds right) becuase I was told not to start the mailbox marathon until the beginning of February. Anxiously waiting for a reply; I interviewed on November 26.

Good luck to all those going to interviews soon. It's really a chill interview, though they do ask specific questions to see if you mesh with the mission of the school and the curriculum.

Questions you'll be asked:
What was the last book you read?

What is the most difficult experience you've ever dealt with and how did you handle it?

Describe a time in which you taught yourself something new (something completely foreign to you).

Describe how you approach studying a new body of information.

Why medicine? and Why Mercer?

That's all I can think of for now. Have fun - its a great school. You'll get to know Jan in admissions - she's a hoot! 😀 Tell her Eric from Savannah said Hi!

Thanks, Eric. When were you there?

Never mind. I just saw that it was 12/10/02.

I got a call this week and was asked which of the dates they had open in January I would like to interview on. I'll be heading in for mine on the 21st.

where are people staying in macon? which hotels are good?

there are several hotels, such as howard johnson, holiday inn, etc. on Riverstreet. No matter where you stay, you can get to Mercer in 15 min.
Good Luck!!!

I think it went well. I totally forgot that there was a fellow SDNer at the same interview time as me! who were you? I was the CDC person.

I am the old guy who sat next to you in the waiting room and at the conference table.

anyone hear back yet?

I got Mercer's acceptance about a week ago. I loved Mercer's school, curriculum, class size, atmosphere, etc. - but I've decided to go to MCG for the cost and opportunities that it offers.

Good luck to all SDNers that interviewed there. Mercer's a great school and you will become awesome clinicians if you study there!
🙂

I received my Mercer acceptance February 1. I enjoyed my interview experience so much. I think it is a great school.

When did you interview, PLD?

I know Mercer is big on primary care, but does it matter where you want to practice? Where is the Okanafawee(sp?) swamp mentioned earlier? Where is Mercer?

for those that have already interviewed at Mercer, what time did you get done on your interview day? I got the call and was told to be prepared to stay there "all day."

I work evenings and just wanted to know if I needed to take off work....

thanks!

Most people are done right after the lunch tour at the hospital, say no later than 230-3 pm. A few have pm interviews and are done by 3-330 pm or so anyway. Good luck.

I interviewed on November 26, 2002.🙂

Cool. Congrats on your acceptance. Looks like I'll be joining you in August.

booyah!

After anxiously waiting I received a call from Mercer asking me why i haven't replied in a month and a half to their acceptance letter....apparently the letter had sat in my local post office for a month and a half! none the less, i have been accepted!

MD 2007! feels good!

I live about 30-40 minutes from Mercer University...what makes you choose macon? its deserted like hell down here...(...I live in barnesville...)

Well, I'm older (non-trad+), have never been much into nightlife/clubbing and have been fighting Atlanta traffic for 14 years, so I'm kinda looking forward to slower pace, less congestion, living closer to school etc.

Lately I've been wanting to get the hell out of the ATL too
The 'All-Star Weekend' was the straw that broke the camels back!! 😡

Macon is small, but I figure I will be studying so much it doesn't matter...It's weird how much my plans have changed in the last month. MCG had been my top choice all along but after visiting Mercer it dropped to being my second choice...even though Mercer is smaller, and not as well known, I just got a better feeling there...

When I got the acceptance, I was so happy. Even though I had one other acceptance, the one from Mercer was when I said: "It's finally done. This process if finally over. I'm happy, I'm where I wanna be. Time to get drunk."

So, who's going to Mercer for sure??
