Did anyone get one of these after having an interview? My interview was 1/13 and I got a letter today saying they aren't yet ready to make a decision, but that my "request for admission is still under serious consideration." Is this a good or bad thing??

It sounds like they may be setting your application to the side for a bit... kinda like putting it on hold. It may not be the most ideal situation, but it's better than getting a flat out rejection at this point! You'll be fine!:luck:

yeah, i agree!! it means that they still thinking about it..Much better than right away rejection~~ good luck :luck:

That's Mercer's way of saying you are waitlisted. I got one of those letters in 2004. I interviewed September/October 2004 and received that letter at the end of October. At the end of December when I heard I was accepted to Shenandoah, I called Mercer to see if I could get an answer out of them since I had an acceptance somewhere else. Jordana told me that I wouldn't hear back until May 2005 at the earliest, but that I should continue to update my transcripts. I told her then to remove my name from the list, since I would be going elsewhere. When you are trying to make plans to move 1,000 miles away for school, it helps to know as early as possible. I couldn't wait until May to begin making plans to move.

Thanks for letting me know FutureRxGal, I wonder why they are so vague in their letters. Is being waitlisted the same as being deferred?

I honestly believe that the terms alternate, deferred, hold, and wait list all basically mean the same thing.

I am "wait-listed" at MCPHS and on "hold" at Shenandoah. When I called both places to get some more information, they basically told me the same exact thing. Each school just uses different lingo.

How about "alternate," I guess that's the same thing too? 🙂 If so, that's where I am with Creighton unless they fix the chem problem.

Yea, pick your poison. They are all terrible words!👎 At least it's comforting to know that there are lots of other people in my shoes. I'm getting worried that I might not get in anywhere this year!

OH my gosh... I got the same letter from Mercer the other day. But I totally don't even care... I'm telling them to take my name off of the waitlist because who needs Mercer when you just got in to USC!! YEAHHHHHH!!!

Hey LittleMissB, I think I remember you at the interview. I talked to you at the very end outside the School... you said you interviewed at Worcester, haha. Congrats on making a decision to attend USC!

calrx, I guess a good thing to remember is "good things come to those who wait," even though it is very aggravating!

Yep, hahaha, I had forgotten about that! I always use the maximum time for anything!

Thanks! 🙂

I got one of those letters the other day too. I called Jordana to ask for clarification about it, since I thought it was another way of saying "waitlist," but she really stressed to me it's not a waitlist. The school is basically putting your application aside- the admissions committee has neither rejected you nor accepted you. They are going to review your file at the next meeting. She informed me that Mercer starts their official waitlist in April/May (towards the end of their interviews). Basically, she was saying you still have to be asked to be on the waitlist. So I guess this letter is sort of another type of waitlist in terms of waiting longer to see if you are officially accepted or extended an offer to be on the waitlist. Just thought I would share what I was told.

Thanks, this makes me feel better! They didn't tell me that on the phone, I talked to a student rep though.
(I was starting to wonder what I had done wrong at the interview...)

Yeah... do it!! I hope you get in :luck: . Is MCPHS your first choice?

Yes, I am hoping that quote will hold true for me as well. Wait, Wait, Wait! 😡

No, it's definitely not my top choice at all. It just happens to be one of the 2 schools I've interviewed at so far! Thanks for the :luck: though!

I've asked the question of a number of schools and the terms are not always so easily interchangable. Getting a "Hold" letter from Mercer does not mean you will be automatically added to their alternate list. Basically, what I've been told is that since there are so few slots for a great number of applicants, adcoms take more time to review files - before and after interview. So, while a hold letter is indeed better than a denial letter, the future outcome may or may not be what we want to receive. We either have to 'wait and see' until the adcom makes that final decision (as someone mentioned, May), or withdraw our file from further consideration (especially if that school is not our first choice and we can't see ourselves attending that school.
