Of the top ten schools, I know a few offer merit-based scholarships (Michgian, WashU)
Are these based mostly on GPA/MCATs? Do they take into accounts ECs or research? Has anyone received one of these? What were your stats and ECs?

I second that. I am really interested in getting additional financial help for med school...

Vanderbilt gives out 20 free rides every year based on merit...
(and happily rejects its own undergrads left and right pre-secondary +pity+ ). They are big #******, though; (ie the last guy to get in with a sub 30 mcat was a vietnam vet (rumor)).

good luck.
