I went to the dentist to fill a cavity between numbers 28 and 29. I went back a week later since there was tiny hole that was really bugging me on the lingual side so he redid the entire cavity grudgingly. A week later, the top of the filling broke off (i caught the piece in my mouth), so I went back to him and he re-did the cavity again. Now, after the second time, a few days later, I notice, with my tongue, a huge gap between the two teeth (28 and 29). The gap is very noticeable with my tongue and my fingernail fits between the two teeth. Should I go back? I would hate to piss him off since it would be my third time going back for this particular cavity. I dont want him to be angry, so he screws up the filling again. What should I say? Because the secretary was really angry the second time I came back to fix the cavity again. Thanks.

Stop going to Monarch Dental.

What do I do about going back one more time to fix this cavity?
How does one find a good dentist?

If he screwed up the filling, he shouldn't get angry with you at all. If you are not satisfied with his work, go see another dentist. There are plenty out there looking for new patients.

Get a crown. Lots of students need to do crowns for graduation requirements where I go to school. Alternatively, tell the secretary your tongue feels something rough on the tooth the dentist worked on and you would like to know if it can be smoothed.

I would ask him to redo it. No reason he should be mad at you, especially because it seems that your complaints are legitimate. I would try to find a new dentist for future procedures. Also shame on you guys for making fun of the op.

I would def get a new dentist. If you are not satisfied with his work and his staff is rude to you that's 2 red flags. Go by referrals to find a new dentist. Ask friends/family/co-workers who they go to. I really wouldn't just leave it b/c if you have a significant space in that interproximal space it will probably be a food trap.

A lot of people go to him. Apparently, he is one of the best in my area. He is always booked. And, I just called and the next available appointment is in 3 weeks.
I am probably going to show him and he is going to say its nothing so he doesnt have to redo it. Trust me.
How can i convince him that it is a big space and it needs to be redone? Because he is arrogant and he will say its my word against his and everything....
Thanks

If you aren't satisfied with his work, you have every right to go to another dentist. Just because "everyone" goes to him does not make him the most competent dentist out there, as evidenced by you having to visit him 3 times for a filling.

You can't convince him. And being booked ≠ being good -- lots of sh|tty dentists out there. Get a new one. And write a bad Yelp review for him.

If you pass a piece of floss through it with no resistance or snap whatsoever he really has no argument. Even if it does snap lightly it may not be a good enough contact.

Crown? Really guys? Haha.

Sometimes it's tough to get a good contact, and it's hard for us to say for sure without knowing what you presented with from the beginning (was there a space? Is the anatomy "abnormal"?).

If it is possible to get a contact, though, he shouldn't just leave it as is, especially if it's bothering you. You say he's the best - well then he should fix it or not have it happen in the first place. If he's being that moody about it, go find someone else. There's plenty of good dentists out there.

This is ridiculous. You should be getting mad at him, not the other way around. Time to at LEAST get a second opinion. Are you a dental student? Have a classmate/upperclassman look at it...

There is contact in the MIDDLE. However the inside (lingual) and outside of the teeth there is no contact at all. There used to be contact before the cavity, and now there isnt.
I had a similar problem before and the same dentist did not fix the issue... I had a cavity between 18 and 19. After the filling, I had a HUGE food trap. It is the most annoying thing in the world. I told him, and he said he cant do anything about it because 19 is slightly rotated (a braces issue) and then he tells me his own personal problems about how he has a lot of food traps in his mouth so its not a big deal. He also joked to start chewing on the other side of my mouth., etc.
Thats why I am afraid he might not fix this issue either.
Thanks

I'd definitely seek out another dentist (or as one poster above said have an upperclassmen take a look at it and see what they think). Check out Angie's list or other reviews for dentists in your area. He should at least fix it because it's money that you've likely paid him in the first place to do the filling-- it should be done correctly

Tell the dentist to try a Garrison matrix.
