One of the questions on a practice Kaplan FL I was doing basically asked:

Prolonged action of the sympathetic nervous system affects digestion by...

a) silly answer
b) silly answer
c) decreasing intestinal blood flow and causing diarrhea
d) decreasing intestinal blood flow and causing constipation

I said C, the "correct" answer is D.

I know that decreased blood flow = decreased peristalsis and decreased nutrient/water absorption = DIARRHEA, not constipation

(I thought constipation resulted from TOO MUCH water absorption...?)

Is my thinking incorrect? Please correct me someone! :[

i think the answer lies in your understanding of decreased peristalsis. if there's decreased peristalsis, will the bolus/chyme move anywhere? will it even get to the rectum and be ready for defecation? it won't. therefore, constipation will occur, where the actions of bowel movements are impaired.
