Hey ya'll! I just had a quick question about the MHIRT programs. I am applying for the programs for next summer, but before this fall semester starts I just wanted to get a list down of the ones I wanted to apply for. Right now I am thinking of only applying for the Harvard and CBU programs, but I have no idea how competitive they are. I figured that Harvard would be more competitive since its well..Harvard, but do alot of people typically apply for this program? If so what's a good way to stand out? Also are there any schools that cover all expenses and pay stipends that are worth looking at? Lastly, can someone share their experience through the program? I am actually interested in the program to promote healthcare diversity, but do you feel like this program could potentially help my application stand out for medical school as well? Thanks for taking the time to answer guys!

I looked up MHIRT, and I'm having some trouble understanding exactly what one would hope to get out of such a program. What do you hope to get out of such a program, and how would the program help you achieve your goals? Have you spoken with anyone running the program?

It's a essentially a public health research internship, as opposed to basic science. You go to other countries and conducted research based on public health concerns and disparities of disease in minority groups. Programs look at previous research experience, previous public health experience, a good personal statement about why you want to go into public health, and grades, of course.

Edit-- In case you didn't get that, you have to demonstrate a strong interest in a public health graduate program.

So basically the fact that I want to go into just MD will not be favorable?

Hmm that's interesting but thank you! Do you know if the program is super competitive? Especially at Harvard?
