So who else (class of 2013) has them? I have 2 chapters in the clinical anatomy text and a chapter in the embryology text to read and I've pretty much been promised a quiz day 1 on the material.

complications was good, everyone should read it anyway. August 3rd starts a week of mandatory orientation and August 10th is our first day of class. Here's an excerpt from the assignment:
"During the summer, you should read the following portions of the anatomy and
embryology texts and be prepared for an exam on the material on Day ONE!! We do
reserve the right to test this material on the first day of class, and if we do the grade will be a part of your final grade in the class. Know this material inside and out; the tests in this course are minutiae oriented and detail driven. "
the professor himself has assured me there will be a quiz day one, I guess to let you know you're in the big leagues now...or something.
I don't have any assignments for my school, but I'm in the process of reading Complications, Better, and House of God for fun.

UNC...its not too terrible though.i think those who have real assignments should say which schools they're going to. future applicants might want to steer clear of those schools because to me this seems like a pretty good indication of the culture of the school (either the profs/administration take themselves too seriously and love making you jump through hoops or the student body is typically under-prepared for med school)
reading a book or paper to discuss at the beginning to set the tone is no big deal though
If you ever plan on mingling with people outside of medical school again, I recommend that you spend your time indulging in books/activities that aren't medically oriented.
What embryology text are you using? So who else (class of 2013) has them? I have 2 chapters in the clinical anatomy text and a chapter in the embryology text to read and I've pretty much been promised a quiz day 1 on the material.
