I interviewed there around the 10th of January and I haven't heard back from them yet. Dean Hinkley said we would probably hear either on Feb 4 or Feb 18. Just checking to see if anyone has heard yet (that interviewed around that time or later).

Tomorrow should be the crucial day... but I've heard that people often hear back on the day after the adcom meeting (that would be Thursday).

My fingers are crossed...

If you are admitted at the meeting tomorrow, then you will most likely find out by email on Thursday. That's how things went for me anyway. Good luck!

good luck alcon and applyingnotfun!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both 😀

Ahhh, my last chance to get in SOMEWHERE before I'm left with nothing but waitlists.

Good luck guys! Try checking the status page at about 7pm on Wednesday.

www.mededu.miami.edu/Admissions/statustrack

I'll try it.

Do you know if the status actually changes on there as soon as a decision is made? Or is the e-mail/phone call usually the first news acceptees get?

I got the status page change about an hour before the e-mail. There could have been a delay with the e-mail travelling through cyberspace, though.

Good luck guys, the more of us the merrier!

Let us know what happens.

I just checked. Nothing there yet.

Has anyone called to find out what's going on?

I can't imagine why this is taking so long...maybe they didn't meet last night?

i'd just call and ask, the secretaries always seemed to know what was going on when i was being obessive back in october.

My status page just changed.

What did it change to? Mine is still the same, and that can't be good.

just to let everyone know, i did get into Miami today. I got an e-mail probably around 5 or 6pm saying that the admissions committee met yesterday (18th) and that i was accepted. my status page has also changed to notify me of my acceptance. just wanted to let you guys know in case your still waiting. and good luck to everyone.

when did you guys interview? I interviewed on the January 30th and Dr. Hinkley told us that it wouldnt be March 4 before our group would find out. I was just hoping to find out sooner. Oh well...more waiting...

Congrats maswe and applyingnotfun!!! Two more UM'ers

Everyone else, hang in there! Miami accepts something like 2/3 of the people they interview, so you have a GREAT shot at getting in already.

Wow, we're starting to build a presence on SDN. Very cool. Congrats all of you!

Soon we'll need an official UM 2008 thread.

For those of you who just got in, when did you interview?

Applyingnotfun said Jan. 12th in another thread, I'm kind of curious about the rest of you.

Because I was there Jan. 16, and they said we'd hear either Feb. 4th or 18th. I just called today since I hadn't heard anything, and I was told that they're running behind and that I wouldn't hear til mid-March, most likely. First I've heard of it.

Did anyone else expect to hear and not hear anything?

I was there on the 16th too. It sucks that they are keeping you waiting. If they are running late they should meet sooner than the middle of march. Hopefully you'll hear before then. Good luck!

hey. in the e-mail that dean hinkley sent us after we were accepted it said that everyone is considered for scholarships. does anyone know how many people typically get scholarships at Miami every year and how much they are worth?

and does anyone know if you answer "no" to the first two questions on the scholarship application (i think they were about an AMCAS fee waiver and disadvantaged status) if you have any chance of getting a scholarship?

there's a scholarship application? is in the acceptance packet we get via snail mail?

I got this formatted email a few days after my acceptance saying "Fill out this form to be considered for minority and need-based scholarships" basically. You write a paragraph or two on why you think you may be considered needy or a minority.

Does UM accept AP credit for any of the required courses?

I was under the impression that most many schools won't accept AP credit for the core required classes. I don't know what UM's stance is specifically, though.

I just checked on the website, and they do accept AP credit. In any case, I'm only missing second semester GenChem. Maybe I could have argued and used Biochem to satisfy it.

Nothing can stop me now!

Just wanted to say WELCOME to all the new members of UMSM Class of 2008! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you guys in August. For those of you who've been accepted but are still on the fence about whether or not to pick Miami, let me give my (somewhat biased) rave reviews of the med school experience at UMSM - I absolutely love this school and I'm sure you will too!
