Hopefully he will make some points specific to anesthesiology, being an anesthesiologist himself. From the AMA Health Systems Reform bulletin today:

AMA President to appear on Larry King Live tonight
AMA President J. James Rohack, MD, will appear on CNN's Larry King Live at 9 p.m. ET tonight to discuss "Myths vs. Facts" in the current health system reform debate. Other panelists will include former Sen. Bill Frist, MD, and Michael Roizen, MD, from the Cleveland Clinic.

It was short and very superficial. Each person had their agenda: Weil sold out physicians for the sake of pushing is alt-med agenda; Rohack sold out to praise the primary care reimbursement "fix" in the House bill, and Roizen focused, shockingly, on wellness (which I agree with, but he had an opportunity to go a lot further than he did). In the end, they each hammered home the importance of personal behavior and how throwing all the money in the world at "healthcare" won't change anything or save any money if people insist on being fat, sedentary, and smoking, which I think was a good way to finish.

I DVR'ed it but watched a snippet live, so I think I saw most of it...agree with your assessment about the agendas.

Rohack kind of treaded near the issue of physician reimbursement and how Medicare payments usually don't even cover the cost of service, but then praised the bill for solving the SGR problem. He even cited the "80% of private insurance" figure, missing a prime opportunity to point out that some specialties (*ahem*) get dicked even worse.

Didn't expect that he would mention anesthesiology, though...I don't think he likes us, based on his letter to Dr. Moore a couple of weeks ago (http://www.asahq.org/news/73109LtrtoDrMoore.pdf). He kind of bitchslapped the ASA in it. Made me feel like I was getting one of those talks from my parents..."We're not mad at you, we're just disappointed in you."
