So, any in-state guys here get into Michigan after bombing one of the mini-interviews? I did well 7 of them, and OK in 2, but gave a sickenly poor performance in my first one. Call it nerves I guess, but I'm wondering how much I should worry about it hurting me.

I know the best thing to do is stay cool headed and just wait for a response from the school, but if someone would humor me it would be cool 😀.

Don't worry. I also felt I did really well in all of them except one. But when I talked to the rest of the interviewees, they also felt they did badly in one. Maybe Michigan purposely places someone in there to kind of give you a tough time to see how you handle pressure. I didn't talk to anyone who thought they aced every single one of them - that's why there's 10 of them! Don't worry!

Totally normal, I actually think thats part of the reason schools will have multiple interviews instead of just one. Based on my own personal experience, as well as talking to applicants interviewing for both medical and dental schools, literally EVERYONE feels nervous about the first one but doesnt bat an eye when theyre name is called for the ones after that. EVERYONE feels more confident about subsequent interviews after the first one. And believe me, you arent the first and wont be the last person an interviewer might see sweat or hear stutter, its something you worked really hard for, its a huge step forward in your life, and I think most interviewers realize this and wont hold it against you much, if at all. Unless maybe you puke on them...

I did the interview and felt like I bombed 1 of them. I didn't get great feelings from 2 others. The other 7 I felt were decent. Essentially, it was similar to your situation and I got in.
I hope you will too. Good luck!

Haha I told you that it would go down that way. You have nothing to worry about and I'm sure you will get in. Good Luck 😀

When did you interview?

Thanks everyone. That's kinda what I was thinking, but it's nice to have a confidence boost as I start the 2-6 week wait for a response.

dansou, I guess you really did know what you were tlking about 👍

Uneek, I interviewed on Friday.

My interview seemed similar to yours. 7 went really well in my opinion, 2 were average, 1 went poorly. I interviewed early October. Not to be a debbie downer but I have 4.0 w/ 23 AA 26 TS and got rejected as an in-stater. Anything can happen

I remember I did horrible in one of the minis.... and 2 others I didn't do too hot either... and I was still accepted (wasn't first batch tho, I was accepted early January as opposed to Dec 1st)

Well that is depressing, but I feel like your situation must be somewhat isolated. Your stats are way above the average matriculate. Were you not feeling the school? Maybe they got the vibe that you didn't want to go there.

There must be some little thing that got in your way, because I have a hard time believing that they would drop a pre-dec interviewee with those stellar stats based on an average interview.

Maybe one of the adcom guys was somehow personally wronged by someone with your name

Did you contact them asking about your application? It's very surprising you didn't get into the school with those stats, but I'm sure you've been accepted to other good places.

OP,

It is hard for us to get an honest read sometimes. I feel this is because we are nervous or maybe even if we get an interviewer that likes to test our patients/nerves etc. One interview i had went horrible and it ended with them telling me i wont hear anything until i update my academic transcript... Dec 1st I received an acceptance and was honestly surprised.

They said it was because of the interview but wouldn't say anything else. But ya I probably would have gone to Michigan to save on $$ and I liked the new curriculum. I actually had this one lady practically falling off her chair laughing during the interview lol. Maybe one of the interviewers had some mad hate on my red hair haha

Don't sweat it. I thought I bombed mine. Maybe 4 good ones, 4 bad ones, 2 mediocre. And I got in...

If you don't mind me asking, did you have really good stats to make up for the rough spots in the interview? Mine are fairly average.
