University of Michigan (IS) vs Case Western Reserve University

School 1: University of Michigan (IS)

Pros:
  • In-state tuition
  • Highly reputable
  • Good class size
  • Less than 2 hours from my parents house
Cons:
  • Under extensive renovations
  • Worried about "gunner" attitudes
  • Want to practice outside of Michigan, and am worried its reputation isn't as highly regarded outside of the state
  • Very high living expenses for mediocre apartments
School 2: Case Western Reserve University (Private)

Pros:
  • Good class size
  • Brand new facilities
  • Highly reputable in the state of Ohio
  • Have family in Cleveland, OH
  • Reasonable living expenses
  • Located where I potentially want to practice
Cons:
  • Very high tuition
  • New facilities could take time to sort our the kinks
  • Worried about taking out the Grad Plus Loan
Summary: I'm feeling incredibly conflicted. I'm from Michigan and am aware that Michigan is consistently ranked highly; although, I am nervous that Michigan residents live in a "bubble" and this reputation is not as highly regarded out-of-state. Also, I am nervous about the attitudes of the students at the University of Michigan due to their high reputation. On the other hand, I really liked Case Western and most likely want to become a GP in Ohio. The cost differences between the schools are significant, and I'm worried that it will be difficult to make connections if I attend a school that is not in the same state that I want to practice in. As of now, I am considering the cost differences more than anything. What do you think I should decide?

It is a tough choice! I also loved Case, the facility was beautiful and I loved the faculty but the price is very up there. I would tell you to put number rankings aside because Case Western and Michigan both have very good reputations regardless. Looking at the curriculum and environment choose the school that you think suits you the best. You are going to be there for four years, and it will be an intense four years so you want to choose the school that you think you will be happiest in. We will have debt regardless and are eventually going to be making good money so when I chose my school, I put price aside as hard as that seems. The "REAL Curriculum" at Case and proximity to Cleveland clinic I really think makes going there a worthwhile experience.

I personally would go to Michigan because all dental schools are equally good. The deciding factor should be one thing and only one thing.

The PRICE $$$$$$$$

If I were you, I would go to my state school, because of the reason like Willy456 already mentioned. Just wondering how much tuition difference would be between two schools? like 150K-200K after 4 years?
