Just finished my file review. It only lasted about 10 minutes.
A little more about the alternate list--she said there were 72 IS alternates, they accepted 11 or 12 last year and that's really high, and that I'm in "the middle third" of the list.
She said that once they get past the SIS calculation part, the look at the things in the supplemental app. She said they were really impressed with me getting my MS/my research, but that I needed to add one more big non-academic thing to my app if I'm going to be competitive (I already have a super high GRE and I have so many credits at this point my GPA cum: ~3.3, science ~3.0, and last 45 ~3.6) isn't really going to change.
And then she pretty much told me that I should apply to a school with a different selection process and I'd be admitted somewhere. (which... ouch.)
So, I guess I'm done with MSU. I have a file review with Washington State in a few weeks and I could get residency here pretty easily, so I'm either going to try for that next year, and I've also been accepted to a competitive PhD program... best of luck to everyone else still waiting!
