For the IS waitlisters--I spoke to someone in admissions today and she said that it's different every year, but that last year they took 6 people off of the IS waitlist. She recommended that I email [email protected] and request my profile, which then allows me to schedule a file review.

Does anyone know if file reviews are for OOS alternates as well and can you do a file review over the phone?

Yep! You just email them to request your applicant profile and then there's a place on their site where you request an appt (phone/or in person). There should be a link in the email with the applicant profile for the appt setup page. Good luck!

Hey I was placed as an alternate and was wondering if they just called you off the list or they re-evaluate everyone's profile and then choose who to call off the list. Wishing for April 15th !!

Hey, I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they have us ranked and will just be going down the list as spots become available. :xf:

This is making me sooo obsessive with finding out and nerve wrecking at the same time- good luck to all the alternates !!

Declined my OOS spot today, GOOD LUCK ALTERNATES!
Thanks for letting us know🙂.
My file review is coming up in a few days, have any alternates done this for this cycle yet? I'm just curious what it was like...did you get any indication as to what your chances were for being called off the list or was it mostly what you can do to improve your application for the next cycle? This whole no rank releasing thing is driving me crazy😱.
On a side note, the Vet-A-Visit is coming right up!!!🙂

Just finished my file review. It only lasted about 10 minutes.

A little more about the alternate list--she said there were 72 IS alternates, they accepted 11 or 12 last year and that's really high, and that I'm in "the middle third" of the list.

She said that once they get past the SIS calculation part, the look at the things in the supplemental app. She said they were really impressed with me getting my MS/my research, but that I needed to add one more big non-academic thing to my app if I'm going to be competitive (I already have a super high GRE and I have so many credits at this point my GPA cum: ~3.3, science ~3.0, and last 45 ~3.6) isn't really going to change.

And then she pretty much told me that I should apply to a school with a different selection process and I'd be admitted somewhere. (which... ouch.)

So, I guess I'm done with MSU. I have a file review with Washington State in a few weeks and I could get residency here pretty easily, so I'm either going to try for that next year, and I've also been accepted to a competitive PhD program... best of luck to everyone else still waiting!

Spoke with Michigan last week, if you have over a 790 you are automatically on the waiting list. OOS wait list is about 200. and they take on average about 20-30 people off it. They do not release rankings but they tell you the chances of getting off the waitlist and relatively where you are placed. By the end of May you will receive a rejection letter if you were not taken off the list.

Ya, they told me I was in the middle of the OOS list, so hopefully a lot o people email them before the 18th saying they want to be removed from the list. I didn't know about the rejection in May though, but I guess that will be nice since I will have more time to decide what plan B is while I'm waiting to apply again😕. I also get my rank at the other school I'm waitlisted at next week, so hopefully I will be able to start making some sort of plans:xf:
Goodluck to everyone else on waitlist:luck:

I don't know about that statement about receiving a rejection letter in May. I'm in the class of 2014 and we had people in our class being accepted up until the end of July (out of state students). The wait list DOES move, so stay positive! 🙂

Yeah she said they send letters out to say you are off the waitlist- they must keep say something like you could be called last minute or only send it out to a few I am not sure!!

Has anyone heard from michigan? From what I heard few if any of us waitlisters will be called this year 🙁 hopefully that information is wrong.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I was just on the MSU website and it says that the class of 2015 is finalized as of right now. Some people may get in if the people in the current class opt out, but it seems pretty much done for right now.

.
Thanks for the info. That's what I figured from the way it sounded last thursday they weren't going to be calling anyone from the waitlist unless someone who's already accepted decides to opt out.

That's the 2014 profile. They don't usually publish the new one until September (as they usually are still making changes to the class until August with alternates)
The header says 2015 and so does the link on the website.

Ok, my bad. I just refreshed the page. apparently since I had already downloaded the 2014 profile on my computer, that's what automatically came up with that link. when I refreshed, the 2015 one popped up 🙂

No problem. Congrats on finishing your first year!😀

I received an email that those on the waitlist will be called AFTER April 18th. It doesn't hurt to call them either, and just ask where on the waitlist you're at. I had a meeting with the Director of Admissions (she was a bit crabby, fyi), and she told me straight up that I was in the middle of the list and it was "unlikely" that I would be called. 😡
