is it possible to gain admissions without filling out a supplemental app?
My understanding is that they send people supplementals who are competitive, and then you can either be accepted, rejected, or interviewed. So I would say no to your question.
Nope, nothing yet. Nice to know I'm not alone at least.
nothing yet
Same here, still no supplemental.
So, I got rejected from Michigan State last year and then went to the post interview workshop, and Hilda (their super helpful admin person) said that they are going to fill about 15% of the class based on the people with the best numbers - so high GPA/GRE scores, without any interview. It wasn't clear whether those lucky folks were going to need to fill out a supplemental or not, but it sounds like no - if all they care about are your numbers, then it seems like you'd click send on the vmcas app and be done with it.
I haven't heard anything from MSU yet either.

Yeah, I got the supplemental this morning as well. Apparently I'm an idiot and didn't realize that they require cell bio. 😱 Looks like next semester is going to be even rougher than I thought.

Ditto, I just assumed microbiology would work??? My "no classes next semester" has now turned into 11 credits! Good thing I wasn't planning on leaving the area like I considered.
No e-mail for me. I assume my letter's in the mail...therefore, rejection #1.
Ditto on that one Rachroo 🙁 But then again the week's not over yet...pls, pls, pls, pls

Well I think the distinction is that cell bio focuses on studying the eukaryotic cell, while micro focuses mostly on prokaryotes.
Oh yes, I think you are right... the question marks were for my thought process, not the courses! 🙂
Congrats to all of you for making it to the next step!
I didn't apply this year (but would consider it next year) and was wondering if anyone (without actually posting your stats) could give me a ball park set of numbers for "competitive Scholastic Indicator Scores" for GPAs and GREs? Any idea how this score is calculated? If my application is going to get thrown out without even being looked at it doesn't seem like a good use of my time or money to apply!
Thanks!

I haven't gotten an e-mail, so by default I'm expecting my rejection letter any day now, so I guess my stats weren't good enough (to be fair they aren't the most competitive).
But maybe this will be of some help in terms of how they calculate the SIS:

Thanks! That does help... but it makes my mind completely boggle trying to think about what they would do with my grades and number of schools I've attended, multiple degrees, graduate courses, old and new prereqs, etc, etc.
And I would need to take cell biology between now and then anyway too...
I'd be curious to find out as well. As much as I'm glad to have been invited to complete one, Im soooo over the whole applications process. I'm just praying I get in somewhere so I don't have to do it all over again next year.does anyone know the amount of people offered the supplemental app and the number of people eventually offered an interview (OOS or general)?
just trying to be realistic about the chances of admission at this point in the app cycle.
Here's a link to the profile for the class of 2012... http://www.cvm.msu.edu/student-info...ions/selected_admitted_class_profile_2011.pdfdoes anyone know the amount of people offered the supplemental app and the number of people eventually offered an interview (OOS or general)?

if the above link doesn't work, you can go to http://www.cvm.msu.edu/student-information/dvm-program-admissions and select Class of 2012 Admitted Profile. FYI.... for the class of 2012, everyone who applied got a supplemental application. Good luck!

everyone who APPLIED got a supplemental? that means that everyone has a competitive SIS score????
or. . . .everyone who applied AND was admitted got a supplemental?

I think maybe in previous years they had a normal supplemental like all the other schools but changed it to invite only this year.

No, LAST year everyone who applied got a supplemental.. they have changed the application process this year so that only those with competitive SIS score get invited to do the supplemental.
Optimistic13 is right.... last year, everyone who applied got a supplemental, regardless of their SIS score. This year, the process has been changed to only send supplementals to those applicants with competitive SIS scores. There was a link posted a few replies back that listed how the SIS score is determined.
Good luck

Unfortunately no... 🙁rustysmom, do you have any idea what they were considering the cut-off for a competitive SIS score?
The only suggestion I have is to take the PDF profile of the class of 2012 and plug the class averages (at the bottom of the profile in the scholastic indicator box) into the calculation for SIS and that should give you a very rough idea of what a competitive SIS would be.

I submitted my supplemental application about 4/5 days after it was offered. But yes, I did continue elaborating on two of my questions in that last section. Although, I didn't write, in reference to question. . . .blah blah blah.
The last answer was more like a mini essay in itself where i included a lot of the information i could not fit in the previous spaces that I thought they would be interested in. To make my case as a diverse, experienced candidate.

I also expanded on two of my answers, although only by a few sentences. Anyone else think the questions about diversity were a bit...ridiculous?? I felt like they wanted me to say I was a homeless minority orphan. 😳 I actually wrote at the bottom: P.S. Even though I am a middle class white female please still admit me.
(deleted before I submitted of course)
