Out of state both. What do yall think?

IF they are the same cost, definitely go to Michigan.
Strange, you can get into Michigan out of state, but not UNC.
Did you ask them why?
Where did you do your undergrad?
Did you do it at UNC?

There are tons of suburbs to commute from... Owings Mills, Columbia, Ellicott City, Canton, Catonsville, etc. Tons of people in my class and classes below do this and don't complain hardly at all. I live only 2 blocks from the dental school and have never felt unsafe (but, that's because if you use your head and don't go out walking by yourself at night, you're less likely to run into a problemJoeybag said:How much time is that in terms of rush hour traffic driving? Are you buying. I think i would consider buying in a suburb, but not real sure if the commute is feasible. Let me know if youve looked into that. Thanks
). I think MD was an absolutely amazing school in terms of clinical education. And, if you want to pursue specialty, the school is very supportive and has many opportunities to excel in all major specialties (I wanted OMS from day 1 and had plenty of support along the way 😎 ). To think that the school will continue on with excellent clinical training with the addition of the ridiculously amazing facilities and technological advancements makes me jealous of all the newbies (but not that jealous... can't wait to start surgery in July!! 😀 😀 ). I think MD is gonna be a big name in dentistry in the years to come (not that it hasn't been in the past, just more so). Good luck! These are 2 very good schools!clp said:maryland is ranked 2nd in the country in terms of overall research funding granted from the federal government... with the exception of #1, which i believe is ucsf, you can't get any better.
Actually, I'm AT Maryland and have no clue which schools have more funding, cuz it doesn't make a bit of difference 😀 😀 . Just playin with ya peck... The truth of the matter is that money is coming in from research, plenty of research opportunities available, excellent clinical training, sweet new facilities, opportunity to specialize in any major specialty, and I'm spent... Goin out to drink until I forget my own namewpeck said:Actually at my interview AT Maryland I learned that its dental school was 3rd in the nation in research funding behind #1 Harvard and #2 Michigan

The lab work required is only for fixed cases (i.e. trimming dies for crown and bridge and mounting casts) and for remo cases (i.e. mounting casts and setting teeth). Lab work can be somewhat cumbersome, but in no way unreasonable. You have your on weeks and your off weeks. I personally have done over 250 extractions if you're worried about that (you can basically do as little or as much as you want). We only have a 2 bridge requirement which is plenty considering most patients will opt for an implant (even if it needs a bone graft or what not). Still, I would put MD up against any school regarding clinical experience and learning. Honestly, any aspect of clinical dentistry you are interested in excelling at is at your disposal at MD. Best of luck!critter20 said:I am trying to decide which school to go to, Temple or Maryland and have a couple of questions regarding Maryland's clinical education b/c Temple's clinical education seems outstanding. Does Maryland require students to perform all of their own lab work related to the cases they take on in the clinic? Do you essentially run your own practice while in school at Maryland? Are you guys required to do a lot of all of the different procedures (ex: 100 extractions, 20 bridges, etc.)? Temple bragged about these two aspects of their school. Thanks for your help
