I feel pretty comfortable with the bio section on the DAT, but I ran into a problem on destroyer discussing which procedure has a high rate of success in fertilization. When I google a comparison, all I get are publications. Is this just another example of Destroyer going to the extremes?
Could someone explain what the main difference between Micro-Injection and In-vitro fertilization and why micro-injection has a high success rate?

Thanks in advance

Microinjection directly fertilizes the egg w/ the sperm while the egg is still in the mother. Invitro (out of the body) has a lower b/c it's outside of the mother. Think about the zygote having a better environment inside of the mother.

Totally off topic here, but do you know how far in depth we need to know taxa? For example, should I know the 6 different classes (ones mentioned in cliffs) of kingdom fungi?

yeah pretty much. go to datQvault and make an account --> download notes they offer for free. they gave a good summary of the taxa. study those and cliffs. i think they overlap but choose which you prefer.

I think you should know the major examples for each phylum. They may want to trick you with the classification of a jellyfish or an octopus. For fungi, I've only seen sample questions that have asked how they are classified. I doubt you need to know the classes.

Okay awesome! I was about to go crazy trying to learn all these names especially after learning everything else.. Lol

I used to be a teacher and I taught high school bio so I've seen lots of tests. If the DAT is similar, which it should be, they will try to trip you up with some of the species that look the same. Like know the difference between a flat worm, round worm, and segmented worm. That gets asked a lot. Same thing with squid, octopus, and jellyfish. I can say that those are fairly asked in the AP exams. Just keep doing problems. I still miss questions here and there. This is the hardest section on the exam since it's the broadest topic.

That's pretty neat from teacher to dentist lol. At least you got a good story to tell to adcoms haha.

Well... There was the day my shirt got caught on the door during a fire alarm and it ripped. Not my best moment.
There were the awkward parent-teacher meetings. My favorite was the parent who was upset I gave their son a C- when I should have failed him because he didn't really do his science fair experiment. But my all time favorite was going into a meeting with the principal because students and parents were complaining to him that my tests were too hard and that everyone failed. The funny part was that the test wasn't graded and when I did grade them the class average was about an 82%...
There are also the "OMG, this kid is pissed and is violent. I don't remember reading anything about this in the teacher handbook. Help."

LOL... good laughs. How badly did your shirt get torn? and seriously I can see how bad it is. I still remember my HS gchem teacher that just got out of school. He was super smart but just kinda sucked at teaching so students took advantage of him and messed around in class. Some guys started a mini fire in the back too LOL

Like half the back of the shirt was gone. I'm into research so I kind of shared that stuff with my students. I showed a lot of videos from the BBC and they liked it.
I think I'd quit if there was a fire haha

British broadcasting channel. Nope!
I watch a lot of documentaries and the BBC has some pretty neat videos. For example, they have one on how the bugatti was built. There are a lot of health related ones from BBC horizon. A lot of neat stuff to be frank.

LOL didn't read thoroughly... brain fried. Was thinking of baron broadcast which was shown weekly to students about funny skits and school related announcements. Hence thought you taught at Fountain Valley high school.
