Does anyone have a good website for Microbiology questions? If you don't know of a website, can anyone recommend a good question book? Thanks! 🙂

Good Book: "Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple, edition 3"...I have heard it's a great book, great for studying for the boards too...I have it in front of me and haven't opened it yet...so I can't tell you from personal experience....but I bought it because I HEARD it was really good!

Speaking of "Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple", I bought it but haven't read yet just like you. This is because I realized the book talks more about bacteria, virus, fungus and the infection from them... basically kinda like a immunology stuff. I'm a 1st year and currently taking microbio/biochem but what we learn in microbio class seems so different from "Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple"...

Does anyone who have had microbio and studied this book have any advice as to if it is a good idea to use it now? or I should wait until when I take immunology?😕

actually its great for micro class. i dont know why you would wait to use it until immuno. i am not sure where u are getting your information from, but it would be foolish not to utilize the great book during your class.

I <3 Micro Made Rid. Simple! I laugh out loud reading it, hopefully the pictures stick with me...

As for sites, one of my classmates sent us this. It seems packed with info, but I don't study a lot of outside sources, or I get overwhelmed: http://www.textbookofbacteriology.net/

We have 2 weeks immuno followed by 6 of micro, and I found MMRS more or less useless for Immuno, but it's good for the Micro bugs.

I do not know of any websites with microbio practice questions off-hand. The Ridiculously Simple book is a fast, easy, fun read but doesn't have practice questions. I actually used two other sources as well-- Cases In Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (you can find it on Amazon or Barnes & Noble). I liked the case-based format. I also used Microcards. The front of the card gives you a clinical scenario and you guess the bug. The back is full of the pertinent factoids for a quick review.

The PreTest series has a Microbiology edition. I think it's divided into types of bugs (i.e. bacteria, viruses, worms etc). It's quite popular at my school. Check it out.

I also HIGHLY recommend the "MicroCards". I can't remember the publisher, but it's the one with a lot of information on each card. There is one publisher that makes a set of micro cards with 1 fact on each card- don't buy this one, it's junk. Good luck.

Lippincott makes the good ones!

i feel TOTALLY overwhelmed in micro right now. more than i ever felt in any class ever, actually. i just can't remember all the details of the structure, reservoir, virulence/toxins/adherence factors, pathogenesis, epidemiology/transmission, infections, dieases, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of about a zillion different bugs! i feel like this is the first clinical course we've had in medical school and i just can't hack it. it's really depressing. sorry, just had to vent...did anybody else feel this way while taking the course? will i look back and see that it wasn't that bad?

I'm taking it right now and feel exactly the same way. I'd be okay if we were learning 4-5 bugs/day, but when it's 20/day ... :scared: . I do agree that CMMRS is amazing and has great pictures/mnemonics.

Probably you could browse thru the microbiology textbooks page at http://www.mediconline.co.nr and see if you can find what you're looking for.A list of free microbiology text sheets and online textbooks are available there.

I just took my microbiology exam today and the made ridiculously simple helped tremendously! Even for pharm questions related to the bugs, it was helpful recalling the pictures in the book. One of my favorites (that was on the test) was the "flock of sinners (aka -floxacin quinolones) gyrate their hips" (quinolones work by inhibited DNA gyrase). I guarentee there would have been no way that I would have remembered that little tidbit if it weren't for that book. Well worth the $30!

I couldn't keep from doing a little "gyrating" myself to that one! And the burning sensation interfering with their sinners life (The cartoon of the guy taking a wizzz )-(quinolones achieve high renal levels and can be used for UTI's)
How about Rap zone of Dapsone for leprosy?
That book is a gold mine of stick in your head stuff

I'm about to finish up micro right now. We had the bacteriology part of the course a couple of weeks ago and are in the virology/parasitology part right now. I had taken 2 microbiolgy courses in undergrad and STILL had a difficult time memorizing all that crap for Micro. I came out with a 92 on the exam, though I thought I was going to flunk for sure. My class average was 82% which is one of the lowest averages we've had on exams...so don't fret....many other people feel the same way as you about Micro.

P.S. The _____ Made Ridiculously Simple books are out there for other subjects too!

thanks for the encouragement guys. the exam is tomorrow and i'm just going to hope they ask the things i know! i have MMRS but i honestly didn't feel like it was that helpful since my lectures seemed to go into SO much more detail. i mean, a couple of the mnemonics were good (i liked the VANcomycin and METROnidazole racing down past the stomach to the GI tract for C. diff), so i guess it was worth it to have it. anyway, it's good to hear that i'm not the only one who found the memorization overwhelming!

It does seem like the level of expectation of detail ranges wildly from med school to med school. Things like CMMRS and Microcards are nice, but might not get the job done at all places.

Hey there! I'm reviving this thread in hopes someone will help & give some more sources. I write tests for my classmates and I'm looking for multiple choice question going over fungi & a few bacteria.

My head spins when I look at these things like a bad trip on the Gravitron at the fair.
:barf:

Any sites? The questions I write reflect my knowledge base and that's a problem. Thanks all!

Caboose.

I know it's been years since you've posted this but I feel the exact same way now. I hope it all worked out for you.
