Hey guys, just a quick question. Some of the schools require an applicant to have taken a microbiology course. Would bacteriology count towards that even though it just focuses on, well, bacteria? Thank you!

At my undergrad school (VCU) we had a bacteriology course that was then replaced with microbiology the following semester. I also took bacteriology, but was able to TA for microbiology because it was the same professor that taught both classes. I'm pretty sure it would count. (The material was 99% the same).

Best answer -- always email the schools directly. Each school might consider it differently.

I would contact the school. I took microbiology, but I also took virology...they were NOT the same. Micro covered both viruses and bacteria along with other, well, micro bacteria. Virology covered as one would assume only viruses.

Thank you for the replies guys! I'll email the schools to be safe.
