Gotta love the microsoft marketing machine - they are all class.

They've called their new antivirus product "Microsoft Antigen"

I could have told them that micro$oft winblows is an antigen - it causes a severe reaction in me.:barf:

Perfect. Once I am exposed to the Microsoft Antigen, and develop a Microsoft immunity, I'll have no choice but to buy a G5. My wife might believe this one. Thanks!

Microsoft Immunity would have been a better name...

In all seriousness, Microsoft acquired the Antigen product when they bought the company Sybari. I'm sure it is modified substantially now, but M$ still likes to "acquire" companies rather than have to fight them in court. I hope it turns out to be a good product, because it had some problems in the past.

Doesn't acquiring the company make more sense?

If they fight them in court, they could lose, and even if they win, they still have to develop the software from scratch. If you buy the company, even through a hostile takeover, you have a much smaller chance of losing, and you get the code base you need, so you don't need to start from scratch. Sounds like smart business to me.

It is smart. The smaller companies don't HAVE to sell. I think MS most likely treats them well. I doubt there is much hostility to it at all. People love to hate MS, though. I just like to make fun of pretty much anything.

Anyway, this Antigen product is all well and good, but the really interesting thing is that MS is really trying to bring together a lot of companies in computer security in order to handle all the new threats from the last couple of years. That's a good thing.
