Midwestern, Glendale 2012 class

class of 2015 thanksgiving dinner? I tink so 👍

I'm down for at least stopping by - I usually go to a family dinner, but if it's early or late enough, I could at least come hang out.

We're going up to my mom's for Thanksgiving. She's doing the turkey, the s/o & I are doing most of the side dishes, and other people are bringing dessert and green salad. We will probably stop in at the s/o's uncle's house - they have a pretty chill party going most of the day. In the past, my family has done a Thanksgiving dinner on a Saturday so we've gone to the s/o's family, but this year the timeframes compete.

Then I think my mom & my sister want to hit a Black Thursday sale late in the evening. They want me to go shopping with them, but I don't really have anything to buy, except possibly a food processor because ours just broke Monday. I've only planned my own Black Friday shopping once in my adult life (I usually worked), which last year with the s/o, and we don't mess around. I mean, we're talking price comparison spreadsheets, walkie talkies, route maps & schedules. Funny thing is, we weren't in it for any of the hot items or doorbuster deals (nothing we needed) so we didn't start until like 7:30 or 8:00am.

hahaha calm down calm down

I meant when we start school thanksgiving of 2012.
I can't lug a turkey to Glendale and cook in the parking lot right now you know

I gotcha gonnabe. I was answering your other question about my plans for Thanksgiving this year. 😀

i failed to notice. me bad

Gonna get myself an xbox this holiday as a congrats gift for getting into pharmacy school. Since... apparently nobody in my family wants to congrats me lol.

Paradise Valley Community College. One of the local CC's not very far from Midwestern. They have a really good science program there, and they really work to produce competitive science based students. Apparently lots of us go on to MWG.

I went to PVCC for my first chemistry course before transferring. It was a really nice school, just a *little* too far away for me 🙂

Psssssssh, xbox.. it's all about the PS3 :3

no idea whats the big difference between the two lol
i never play console games...was just gonna pick one up for super cheap and get NBA 2k11 or something.

Lololol I kid. I think the Xbox is the best system for sports games from what I've heard my friends say. Personally, I only play console-style RPG games.. although lately I haven't had any time for my PS3. It's all boxed up since summer still. 🙁

XD So I've been told. I'm sure I have quite a few other quirks that may or may not surface 😛

In other news, I received a letter from MWU today stating that I've been put on the alternate list. This, of course, came after I got a voicemail from Pacific Oregon telling me I had been accepted. The irony. Oh well, I'm not too depressed since it's not an outright rejection. We'll see what happens.

Paficic Oregon has 90% passing policy. I'm scared for you :scared:
I think MWU AZ hate me or something! Put my application on hold for almost 2 months and no response what so ever 😡

D: Yeah, they informed us about the 90% passing policy.. but it seems pretty manageable from what they current students said so I'm not too concerned. Maybe it'll eat my own words if I do end up going there though :x

Wow, 2 months of being on hold. That sucksssss..

from all the students i've talked to at schools of pharmacy with 90% passing rate, it is not hard to pass if you actually study. i don't think anyone should worry about that policy because they give you plenty of retakes. You are also required to retake the same exam with your assigned group and if you pass with your group, 5% goes towards your individual score. so even if you get 85% on the individual exam, and your group passes then technically you passed with 90%.

pharmacy school is not going to be easy. personally i think it is good they enforce the 90% passing policy. They are striving to produce excelling student pharmacists.

Don't need you no moarr! I got the Xbox + Kinect for $150. 😛 The ppls in Glendale weren't very crazy for Black Friday compared to the ppls in SoCal.

Hopefully, this will make our study breaks interesting.

I knew someone who interviewed in October 2009, and was wait listed until March or April of the following year. There should be an elective course for coping with anxiety. I honestly don't know how you do it. I would have gone insane.

Also, the poor girl who flew in all the way from Ohio to interview got her rejection letter today. I feel terrible for her. How bad can an interview possibly be to not get put on the wait list after traveling 2000 miles. So much for my theory of "no one gets flat out rejected."

Was someone on here asking about what areas of town to stay away from when looking for housing? I couldn't find that post and now I'm wondering if I didn't just imagine the whole thing. 😕

I'm not sure if you meant to say "more" or "less" normal.

Yes, I do play League of Legends... Any of you want to play with me, hit me up & I'll send you my user name. 😀

Eh, I'm self-conscious about sharing this sort of thing randomly on the interwebs, with people I've never met.

The nerdy female - we do exist. 😉

Try it again - they just introduced a new game mode called Dominion that lasts about 15 minutes a match, and the map is much smaller. It's more like capture the flag. Much faster pace (read chaos) than the old 5v5 Summoner's Rift format. In fact, I think I've played... 3 games of 5s since Dominion came out? It's also a lot more fun if you Skype & shoot the, uh, stuff while you play.

ever since i got the xbox my life has been: wake up, work, work out, NBA2k11, eat, sleep.

sooner or later NBA 2k11 will take over eat and work out and just become sleep, work, NBA

Replace NBA with Skyrim for me xD

Nice xD , it is an awesome game! I couldn't put it down until I played a lot of it. I knew a lot of people who did not like Oblivion, but loved Skyrim so definitely worth checking out if you did not like Oblivion.

buy you a beer LOL

Yes, I'd like to know too! What are good areas to avoid in the Greater PHX area? Of course we'd all like to live around the school, but that might be too much $$. It further complicates matters that I have two weenie dogs 😍 that I will be bringing with me. I talked to on-campus housing and they don't "yet" allow pets 😡 So, for those of you that are familiar with the area, any suggestions as to good (but not too expensive) neighborhoods that are somewhat safe?

What's the price range you're looking for? Determining that would be helpful towards finding the right place to live.

From what a first year said, there are apartment complexes nearby that allow pets.

Well, my range is ideally 0$(ha!) -700$ a month. I would like to live alone, but boy there are some nice apartments super close to campus that would be affordable with a roommate. I'm thinking that if I did have to get a roommate, that it would have to be someone in the same program at the same time as me, or maybe even a P3 who is off on rotations all the time. Haha!

I heard cheateu elizabeth is available for renting 😀

looking for roommate is going to be tough lol since you have no idea the other persons habits

Seriously, I've had tons of roommates. Finding a good one is definitely difficult.

you always want to live with your homies and then you notice that one thing that annoys you and rest is history lol.

I actually dont care much for type of person my roommate is as long as he is quiet during study times and sleep times. I guess it's my fault for always rooming with Econ majors whose schedule is opposite of ours.

Cant be that bad right? Since you get your own rooms even in a double. 👍

OH GOD. The Econ roomie. I shared a room with my econ roomie and although she was really awesome and pretty darn considerate, she partied at night while I had 8am labs. Even a wall separation would not have prevented the pounding noises that came from the living room. Over all, I had a great experience with her and even stayed with her all 4 years of college. Do I want to do it again in pharmacy school? Not really.

If you want to live by yourself, there are some on campus studios and probably some off campus as well. I think the fee is a little under $700 but they pay for most of your utilities. 🙂 I think the PS3 situation would be awesome because you could ask him/her for advice.

P3 not PS3

get off your game console mode you nerd

In hackerpanda's defense, Midwestern uses "PS" then the year designation on their academic calendar... 😉

Nope, not a strong argument because it would actually be PS12 for a 3rd year to us. She is just way too gerk now days since she bought her xbox. (Yes I combined geek and nerd, problem?)

There should be SOMETHING affordable relatively close to the school. There is a lot of newer building has gone on in the area (prior to bubble burst) - Maybe look further west or south?

I would feel comfortable walking by myself at night anywhere within several mile proximity of the school. I think it's a pretty safe area. Now that I'm thinking about it, I had my car break down on me in the evening

I might stay north of maybe Olive & stay away from Grand Ave (which runs diagonal) - south & near Grand it can be hit or miss in terms of sketchiness, but I'm comfortable making a blanket statement about closer to the school to out-of-towners. As a personal preference, I probably wouldn't want to live further west than like 99th-107th Ave, but that's just me - there's still a lot of construction out that way in some places, and the developed commercial areas are a bit further.

Phoenix is a grid system, with exceptions out by Sun City / Surprise and Tempe / Mesa. Numbered roads run north-south; Streets are east of Central & Avenues are west of Central. A rule of thumb is 8 numbers = 1 mile (99th Ave to 107th Ave is generally 1 mile). Named roads run east-west. Some roads may change name, especially as you travel east-west - Olive Ave (in the west) turns into Dunlap Rd (in the east) at 43rd Ave. In terms of addresses, 000 is at Central & Baseline. So, 4323 W Olive Ave would be just west of 43rd Ave on Olive Ave.

It further complicates matters that I have two weenie dogs 😍 that I will be bringing with me. I'd check along 51st / 59th / 67th Ave south of the school, probably like Thunderbird Rd - Olive Ave. From my impression, you can probably find a relatively affordable apartment out that way, although I haven't price checked in a few years.

If you've got somewhere you're thinking about & you want a second opinion, I'll offer to give you what I think of the area / apartments. There are a number of other local folks here & on the FB group who would probably also be willing to do the same thing. 🙂
