If you don't mind me asking... when did you submit your apps? I applied to Midwestern- Glendale and still waiting to hear back from them for an interview. Thanks!
@knj27 I was told by someone in admissions that they interview around 200 people out of 1000ish applicants they get
Hey guys I was at the September interview at Midwestern. The whole process is really laid back and welcoming.
Hey guys I was at the September interview at Midwestern. The whole process is really laid back and welcoming. There is a writing portion during the course of the day to complete but it is nothing to worry over. The interview is 2 on 2 meaning two interviewers and two interviewees at the same time. All in all it finishes in about 3 hrs maybe a little more depending when you get your turn for interview. The questions are laid back as well but they do try to confuse you with one hard question but those questions usually have no right answer, if that makes any sense. Just relax and be yourself and you will kill it 🙂
I went to Midwestern so I can tell you a few things:
You get accepted quickly (like one or two weeks I think) after your interview; I guess I don't know what happens if you're rejected but I imagine it's a similar timeframe.
The school is GREAT but hella expensive (which is why I left- to save 100,000$ in loans).
People there were cool. The interview process seems to do a good job of finding seemingly well-rounded and personable students.
Lots turn it down due to cost so if they even do a waitlist (I'm not sure they do) I'd plan on getting in.
I'm honestly jealous of all you who end up going there. I switched to save money (and I will) but my time there was awesome- my state school...less so. If money was no object I'd pick Midwestern again!
this program seems to at least break it down the best with cost of living expenses as well. It is costly, but every other program only shows the cost of tuition.
Where are you seeing this for Midwestern? All I've looked at is their tuition and fees page.

This is what I was referring to. And I agree it's very costly, I just liked that it was broken down which the other schools I have applied to did not do anything like this.
The debt to salary ratio is very scary actually for almost any program you attend.

And either way, just tuition and fees for the PT program is $35000/yr...since they claim that tuition goes up 4-7% each year, and if you factor in the cost of books and any other costs associated with being in the program, that's going to be ~$120k for the degree before living expenses. As far as I can tell, that's above average even for private schools.
You should look at the cost for Western University in CA... they estimate about $180k for 3 years including all costs (R&B, tuition, books, fees, external expenses). So no matter where you go, if you're not living at home or have a scholarship expect to be over at least $120k in debt. Even at NOVA, tuition is $27k and R&B is cheaper than living in Los Angeles. However, I am already expecting that the cost of it all will be around $120k I would imagine.
They give you a pretty tight window for your deposit- I'm gonna say less than 2 weeks.
And actually, I bailed halfway through a quarter when I got taken off the waitlist at my state school and went almost directly to it- no time off at all. Midwestern starts their PT program in May and most other programs start at the end of August. I lost all the work I had done (restarting cadaver lab and leaving a good grade on the first exam), boo, but got a pro-rated refund of the tuition costs for the quarter. Still, that experience down there cost me about 10 grand between the tuition I did pay, moving expenses down to Arizona and back, as well as breaking a lease.
Overall though, I stand to save nearly $100k by switching
It's crazy to think that getting into these highly competitive programs isn't enough. You then have to worry about whether you can even afford the program 🙁 I just want to get accepted right now but I would be devastated to even think about turning a school down for financial reasons.
It's not that you'd have to turn it down because you couldn't access the money...with a few rare exceptions, you will always be able to borrow enough to pay for it...it's just a personal decision if of how much debt you are willing to take on...there have been a lot of threads with a lot of good (and some bad haha) opinions on the "economics" of becoming a PT...read up! 😀
Oh I've been reading haha. Their opinions are very interesting
...they do try to confuse you with one hard question but those questions usually have no right answer, if that makes any sense.
I just had my interview and I thought I'd update for those waiting for their interview! Don't know if it'll be helpful but hopefully it will!
For those of you still waiting for an interview I wouldn't get too devastated because they said they are only 50% through the interview process. Keep hope alive!
As far as the process went, I'm sure you all know that you interview with one other interviewee as did I. What I didn't know is that the interview was only roughly 20 minutes. That means essentially you have 10 minutes to represent yourself. I was told to prepare A LOT for the questions such as "Why do you want to be a PT?" and "Why Midwestern?" neither of those were asked. I do think you should prepare from them just in case of course! Despite being told not to ramble, I know I did. I was fine until they made it pretty clear that they were on a time crunch and it had the opposite effect on me, I talked more. 😕 Don't do that! haha The first question they asked wasn't a serious question. I don't know if it was meant to throw us off or if it was meant to lighten the mood a bit. It did a little of both for me! be prepared to think quickly for those weird questions. I'm hoping that despite my rambling, my answers were sufficient! I believe its the only bad thing I did but I've heard it's the number one thing not to do.
I hope this helps anyone who is preparing for a Midwestern interview! Good luck and I hope all of you waiting will hear back soon!
I was wondering with thanksgiving being this week if it would push things back a little for the admissions committee? What do you guys think?
I split a two bedroom with a roommate and I pay about $550 in rent. Classmates live in on campus housing or one of two apartment complexes across the street. The on campus housing is kind of ugly IMO and is around the same price for off campus. Plus, it's nice to be able to just get off campus at the end of the day. Haha, "typical" week varies week to week. Rescheduled classes were rampant our first year and was a major source of complaint. Don't know if it's improved or not. If you go on the midwestern website you can find our class schedules, they aren't a secret. You can get a fairly good idea from there. Add in some rescheduled classes here and there and you get the jist.@ashnicolee43 I was expecting those questions as well during my interview in Oct! Although they didn't directly ask for it, I made sure I touched base on them so they know I was honestly interested in their program.
Loved the campus, thank god they do in person interviews-- couldn't imagine going to an out of state school having no idea what the campus is like lol. If you have an interview coming up, don't stress and just be honest! Also thought I'd add this: A lot of ppl I interviewed with found out the following Wednesday that they were accepted, so check your portals later this week!
@PT2Bee How expensive can housing get around campus? Do a lot of PT students live on campus or apts and where? What is a typical week like for first years? What do you like/dislike most about MWU?
If you don't hear tomorrow then ya I'm guessing it's not going to be Thursday or Friday lol. @Spartan2014 says that people in the Oct. interviews found out the Wednesday following their interview so we'll see...
*neurotically checks email and MWU portal every half hour*
Sooooo....I guess nobody has heard anything yet?
I first noticed the portal but they send an email or letter, I forgot which.Do they send you an email about your acceptance/rejection/waitlisting or is it just on the MWU portal?
@AP191 @swolecat @PT2Bee
They called me...hard to remember but pretty quickly. 1-2 weeks after the interview I think
