Hey guys,

I have an interview at Midwestern Downer's Grove, and I would appreciate ANY feedback from those who have already interviewed there!

There isn't much in the interview feedback section, and I know MWU-AZ and MWU-IL have different interview styles and questions so I can't even use their feedback.

Thanks!

sure what would you like to know?

In general:
You start with a brief introduction of their program.
Then (I don't if this is true for every day, but its how my day went) I was in group 1 of 2, so the 8 of us first went and interviewed for 80 minutes.
You see 8 different faculty members for 10 minutes each. You stand outside their door for 2 minutes reading a prompt on their door, then you have 8 minutes (timed) to answer the question. Its very relaxed and comfortable. Then you rotate to the other rooms, someone at front is timing everything.
Afterwards, while group 2 went to interview, those of us in group 1 went and just hung out, mostly talking to each other, and then 2 dental students for a few minutes. After group 2 was done we had a financial aid presentation and lunch at the end. That was about it.
Anything else you wanted to know specifically?

The interview feedback section has enough on MWU-IL to get by. Read those qs; Thats how I prepared and I felt fine. Just get there and dress warm. Its pretty cold in Chicago.

You definitely don't need to stress about it. Just look at the feedback (both under MW-Illinois and MW-Arizona - the relevant ones under Arizona will be followed by "IL"). Don't worry, for the most part the interviewers will give you follow-up questions, so they wont just sit there staring at you the entire time. I had mine the other day and it was actually a lot of fun. Good luck!

👍 they are really really friendly over there! very nice faculty, they know how to treat their students and guests properly.

👍

Compared to my interviews at other schools, this seemed the least stressful and most laid back. The questions are pretty much one or two liners and situational. They are kinda random but the 2 minutes gives you plenty of time to think about it and if you run out of things to say, the interviewers are prepared to keep the conversation going. Good luck!

Hi! I'm a current student at CDMI (College of Dental Medicine Illinois).

The above posts are correct about the interviews. Faculty who will be interviewing you are our lab faculty. They are dentists who come in once or twice a week to work with us in the sim lab - and eventually the clinic. When you're here for the interview you will also have a little bit of time to meet with a current student or two! You can also stop us in the hall - we'll be wearing royal blue scrubs. Everyone in our class is very friendly and willing to speak to possible incoming students.

Please feel free to message me with questions about the school. I don't want to answer any questions about the interview but I can help you with where to stay while you're here, possible places to live once you get accepted, tell you about the curriculum/professors or whatever you want to know 🙂

You guys have been so helpful, thank you so much!! I'm just getting pre-interview jitters...were there any questions that you felt came out of left-field? If not, then I'll use the interview feedback section 🙂

the feedback should be enough to understand the type of questions asked. The interviewers were really friendly dont be nervous! just smile and be courteous, the rest is out of your hands.

One question that I know is on the feedback but still felt that I had a tough time answering was "Under what circumstance would you steal a loaf of bread?"
They are so friendly and you can go any way you want with it, so don't worry and just relax. Tell them what you really think.

Questions that were asked...

1. Under what circumstances, if any, would you steal a loaf of bread?
2. What do you know about this school and why is this school good for you?
3. Why dentistry?
4. Explain a time when you had to base a decision on very little time/information and what did you learn from the experience?
5. What non academic club/organization would you start and why?
6. Dental students are supposed to set an example for health standards. Do you think smokers should be barred from applying to dental schools?
7. *Quote about knowledge* Something about realizing what you know and don't know... and knowing when to draw the line.

Sorry I don't remember the 8th question.

Don't stress about the interview here and once you are accepted send me a message if you need help finding a place to live, etc.
