vj,
Honestly, it just really seems to fit my situation nicely. If you want details, feel free to PM me.
As far as the argument about the "uncertainty" of the school, I just don't buy it. I'm not a dunce and wouldn't walk into a stupid situation if I had other options. And MWU isn't stupid, either. Their parent campus in Chicago is very reputable and their AZ location is already gaining distinction for their other programs. Also, I don't know how many of you who interviewed there were told by Dr. Simonsen that MWU is looking to open up ANOTHER dental school in Chicago! Any other schools in the nation that can say they have the confidence and capability to pull that off? To me, that says a lot about their confidence in thesuccess of this school. Just one of my reasons of many...
I also do agree with Kdawg on this one.
I myself have also been accepted to several schools, and wait listed on couple others. However I am choosing Midwestern.
One of my main reasons I am choosing Midwestern over the others is due to the new facilities and new technologies we as students will get to use, that some of the other schools will simply not have. The general dentist that I worked with mentioned how the technology that you learn with in dental school, will most likely be the technology that you will use in your own dental office in the future, because you are comfortable with what you learned from. I myself want to be up to date with the latest in dental technology, and from the preview that Dr. Simonsen showed us during his 1 hour talk at the interview, I'm very excited about what and how we will learn dentistry.
Many people want a more "established" program, but what good is going to an established program, if they are teaching you old school stuff, in a facility that needs repair.
A lot of people are attacking Midwestern for its uncertainty. But like KDawg said, I'm not stupid for selecting some random school that is making something from nothing.
I did my research on Midwestern, and I am confident that they know what they are doing. Not many programs can say they have 2 strong DO programs, 2 pharmacy schools, and many other solid programs on two seperate campuses, one in Illinois, and the other being in Glendale, AZ. The dental school is their latest addition, and their latest investment.
If Midwestern didn't have these solid reputable programs behind their back, and if this dental school was indeed the first program they were creating, then I might be uncertain. But knowing that they have the knowledge, experience, people, and the money, it makes me certain they will have a strong dental program as well.
From what I remember Dr. Simonsen telling us, they are investing over $100 million into the Dental program. I don't know how many of you are investors out there, but $100 million is a lot of money, and I'm sure no one is stupid enough to invest that much money without being certain that this will work.
