Is anybody here going to Midwestern in Glendale Arizona? I have joint problems and have been looking into the university 'coz of the warm weather in Arizona. I'm also a single mom and would appreciate any advice I could get regarding getting into the school and life in Glendale, Arizona. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I've lived in the Glendale/Peoria, AZ, area for over twenty years now. The weather is gorgeous, especially in winter. It's damn hot for 3 months out of the year and semi-hot for another 2. There's virtually no humidity in the heat, so you don't get sticky. it also rains off and on for 2 months in the summer (monsoon). It's possible to wear shorts/short sleeves year round. Winter mornings get to the high 30's, but warm up to 60s.

About other things, Glendale is huge and there are nice parts of it as well as bad areas. You can live just about anywhere in the Phoenix area, drive for 15 minutes and be in a bad part of town. (I don't know if the same is true for other big cities?) Midwestern is in a nice part of Glendale, less than a mile from a major freeway (Loop 101). Therefore access is easy if you are near a freeway. There are still expanding on their land, and the occasional coyote is a common sight. It's a BEAUTIFUL campus, with lots of apartments nearby.

As for admissions, it was the only school that I applied to, and I was lucky enough to get in on my first try. :luck: I will start in August. I had a mediocre GPA (3.5 somthing) and a high PCAT score (98). I already have a BS, and this helps from what I hear. I graduated from ASU in 2003 with it and have been working as a Pharmacy Technician part/full time since 1998. I had smokin' letters of recommendation and I believe that I did alright in the interview. It was almost as if the the interviewer(s) was/were confrontational and they want you to do well under pressure. I was accepted outright and not waitlisted. The program is 11 quarters, just under 3 years. I've heard that they look at everything as a factor and not one thing in particular. I'm also a little older (mid 20s) and a parent.

Best wishes for your future and let me know if you have any questions 🙂

Thanks a lot for the great advice and congratulations on your admission. Do you know how big the classes are at Midwestern? I graduated with my bachelor's in Biochem 11 years ago and am wondering if those classes would be considered or if I'll have to retake all those pre-requisites. I'm currently working in the pharmaceutical industry and realize that there isn't much biotech or pharma in the greater Phoenix area. I'm thinking of moving there and getting a job as a pharm tech, but am worried about being able to make ends meet. How much do most tech jobs pay? Is it easy to get a job as a pharm tech? I don't have any experience in the area, but realize that I need it before I can get into school. By the way how big are the classes at Midwestern?
Is there anybody else who has joint problems on this forum? Where are you planning on going to school?

130 people in class, all together for most lectures
they assign you to a "team"-people that you will do projects with for the entire time that you go to school there

Your classes might be too old, check with the school. Pharmacy tech jobs pay anywhere from $8-16 per hour depending on experience and where you work. Some places will take you with no experience and train you on the job.

how come no one really seem to bring up midwestern in arizona? i mean, im just learning about their program and it really makes me wonder, among all the other 3 yr pharm schools, why midwestern in underrepresented.

is midwestern not as competitive as the other 3 yr schools b/c they require the pcat??
