Ok so I am not doing so well in Chemistry II this semester. I really have no excuse. I did not get help when I didn't understand the material and now I might be paying for it. I'm still not sure if it's a C or a B. If I judge just from exams, it's a high C...but then I don't know my lab and quizzes grade yet. Quizzes are not so hot either but a bit better than the tests. Our final is standardized and very few people ever do good in that!

Well I was wondering... if I retake it and get an A, will it look bad on my application? I'm taking Organic next semester. If I get an A there, will it proove that I can handle chemistry and this "C" is just a reflection of a bad semester?? :S.

This is my own fault. It is what happens when you go from taking easy gen ed classes and one science to three science classes (two 300-level) and only one gen ed class.

You can tolerate a C in Chem II but you'll need to compensate with a better grade in another BCP class for equivalent credit hours, and you'll need to make sure you have a solid DAT score for Gen Chem. I got a C in Gen Chem II and things worked out for me. However, it involves extra effort in the future.

IMHO, retaking is a waste unless you are certain you can get an A and you have nothing better to do. If you can do well in the upper level BCP classes you'll be able to write in your personal statement about how you honed you method in the freshman levels so that you could ultimately excell in the upper levels. Of course, you'll need the grades to back this up.

I got a C+ one time, and it seemed for me like it was the end of the world. What you have to do is look at the total package. If you don't have a lot of C's and it was just an isolated event, then it should not be an issue.I don't even think about that one grade anymore, just continue on and do well and it will be forgotten. Maybe the ADCOMS will ask about it, but if you ensure it to be an isolated event, then the question will almost answer itself.

I don't have any C's....yet. I think Chem II will be my only one. Botany is probably an A, depending on the final. Animal Biology is a B.. um yeah. I'm not worried about Animal, since I will be taking plenty of Animal biology-related courses in the future.

Thanks so much! Oh I am studying my .... off next semester. I'd prefer to do that than retake Chem II, which I really hate.

What's a BCP class? I will obviously have 300 level Organic and Biochemistry so hopefully that will compensate 😉. All my Biologies are 300-400 level starting with this semester and later on.

Do not retake chem II unless you score lower than a C. Prove yourself by acing Chem on the dat and doing well in orgo and biochem. BCP stands for biology chemistry physics.

If you do get the C, let that sour taste be motivation to not let it happen again. No more C's in Prereqs. 🙂

BCP classes are classes pertaining to biology, chemistry and physics. For example, biophysics, physiology, anatomy, neurobio would all fall under that category.
