do medical students (MD and DO) wear white coats during all of their classes? Or is it just a ceremonial thing?

Seems to be generally true. Most schools you don't wear them to lectures (most people wear normal street clothes, although this varies some between schools). For clinical rotations a good part of the time you'll wear the coat.

I think you get them for your 3rd and 4th years in med school because of rotations, correct me if I'm wrong. But, I now for sure it's not just a ceremonial thing, you wear it around campus etc.
A kid in my class has his own white coat (pre-med school) and wears it everywhere. Awkward.

Does he have his name stitched on his coat also? That will be epic.![]()
:/ We get our real white coats today and I have a feeling he is going to wear it even to bed. And not bc he's playing doctor 😉
That's real exciting getting your real white coat today. Congrats! 🙂
