i just want to know what yall think. a big part of my application I emphasized wanting to be a dentist in the military. do you think this could greatly improve my chances at getting in to school? If no one knows this, the army and navy only filled about half of their requirements this past year for the HPSP, their lifeblood in healthcare.

It's great you want to serve in the military, but dental schools don't really care. They are not affiliated with the military in any way.

I think it helps to some degree......I was told it moved me up 4 spots on a waiting list.....You will realize that a lot of dental professors have served in the military.....wanting to serve won't hurt you and it won't help you a ton but I strongly suggest you look into it, its a great deal

Ah...I'm not sure either way, but I don't understand why it would help if you emphasized military...strictly because you have to get into dental school before you even can apply to find out if you are qualified for the military dental program (at least the NAVY one). Id be interested in hearing more about this too.

Why wouldn't everyone mention their sincere desire to serve in the military as a dentist just for the advantage? I hate to suggest that some people are duplicitous but I'm under the impression that most people just want to get in first and figure everything else out second.

i sincerely want to be in the mililtary... i would be going in if i wasn't going to be a dentist anyways

i love you guys, are yall planning on taking a scholarship if yall get accepted? if so, what branch? maybe we'll go to ois, or ots, or obc together 🙂

Just so you guys know, there's a new military dental forum on SDN. It's brand new so there aren't a whole lot of posts there, but it should be a good source of information.

You guys don't miss a thing,

I'm an honorably discharged, disabled veteran, back from Iraq. It is extremely unlikely that you'll be seeing me go back in willingly, unless it's only on paper and for the sole purpose of benefit in the admissions process. I didn't mention any of it on AADSAS other than in the employment history and in that section I suggested I was a civilian employee of the DoD. I don't expect special treatment because I'm a veteran but if they'll give me preference for my willingness to serve my country, I honor their offer.
