I just commissioned about a month ago. Is it possible to get a military ID anytime soon so I can take advantage of military discounts and things like that? What do I need and how do I do it?

Keep in mind that us HPSP are IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve) in dental school, except for your 45 days of active duty per year. Some military discounts don't apply to us.

IRR (individual ready reserve) is actually not an inactive component; green id will get you 99.9% of military discounts available.

good luck!

Go to the following website and it will tell you the closet RAPIDS ID site.

www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl

All you need is your Commissoning Orders and two forms of ID. They will make it on the spot for you.

From what I heard from a Navy D4 in my school, he was able to get an active duty CAC (ID) while on his yearly active duty tour (I think in his D2 year). Not sure if he just got lucky, or if he was full of it. 😎 Perhaps it's just something you can do, going to test it when an opportunity comes up.

Thanks for the correction Dr63A! Yes, it will get you most discounts. Just FYI to the OP: I have already been told a couple times that I am not eligible for discounts because I am reserve, not active duty.

no problem. if you really want a cac then when on 45 adt orders, take orders to deers office then get a cac and don't return it until you get a new cac as an active duty o3. this is what i did when i was hpsp.

not within regulations, but it works.

good luck!
