This is my first post. I joined this site to provide guidance to my daughter who is a P4 in pharmacy school.

I am a retired Army Lt. Colonel. My daughter has expressed an interest in joining the military. She is not sure which branch.

She would be interested in either active duty or reserve. If there are any recruiters on this site or military pharmacist, I would appreciate any current information.

She is interested in loan forgiveness as well as bonuses. Please provide me any information or AMEDD contacts.

Thank you.🙂

You can pretty much forget about reserves right now. They are overstrength in all three services. I and a few others have covered your questions several times on this forum. Here is a link to a previous thread. If you have any more questions, fire away or PM me.

Let me start by saying that Caverject is one of your best sources of information on this forum.

My short synopsis of what I have found just going through it:
Air Force: Using HPSP to fill the vast majority of pharmacist positions
Navy: According to a friend who is on scholarship with the USN for pharmacy, they too are using scholarships to fill the majority of positions
Army: This is the one I know the least about - Every recruiter I've ever talked to wanted to see a license in hand before they even considered me. But this is Caverject's branch - he would know more than I.

Hi ninja. I was just wondering how competitive is it to apply for the hsps for the airforce because I'm in the process of applying

Since I first started this thread, I found out that the AF is not looking for pharmacist for FY 2013. He reminded her that she has until she is 42 to join.
Not very encouraging.

The Army seems to still be looking for pharmacists. My daughter graduates in May 2012.

Does it matter the location of the recruiter that you contact?

Loan repayment is very important. Is public health another option other than military?

Here is a link for Indian Health Service: http://www.ihs.gov/pharmacy/index.cfm?module=cc

The Air Force is currently filling all pharmacist slots with their scholarships. As she is already a P4 I don't think there's much of a chance for that.
