I was curious how dental schools would see military service.

Such as:

Graduate with BS, goood GPA, great DAT then enlisting as combat medic/etc, then coming back and applying.

Or

Take a break mid college after completing core classes, enlisting, then finishing up with prereqs, DAT, etc.

Would one be more desirable?

I am answering this question as a current active duty enlisted service member. Not sure that the service will give you an edge on getting into dental school but I do know that I am now better equipped to handle the rigors of something as demanding as dental school. If you want to go enlisted I would say go for it and while your in work on your degree (currently what I am doing) and network while your in. I have already talked to some dental officers who will be more than happy to let me shadow them and pester them with questions. ROTC is another option, in the summers they go to bases and do some of the hooah stuff if thats what your into.

I would be looking at enlisting, primarily as combat arms. I don't want to do it for the edge, but more for serving my country and doing something that you only have one chance at life doing and then maybe be military dentist.

Thank you for your answer very much!

well good luck and dont settle for anything less than combat arms if thats what you want.
