tomorrow is the 2nd exam. 1st exam i got the class average and passed. for the 2nd test i used the same study method but rightnow i feel like my mind is totally blank. I have not been cramming; everyday i went over the notes/transcripts and these past couple of days i have been reviewing basically, however right now i just dont remember a thing lol. 2nd exam does cover a lot more material and i just feel like a bit overwhelmed. is this normal? i still understand the materials when i see them i just dont remember it the moment i turn the page:laugh:

Normal.

Once you start shoving all this info in, you usually need some sort of trigger to get it out.

I think what you are trying to do is run through topics in your mind; but that could get overwhelming for your brain because it kinda gets "tongue tied" trying to ignite a bunch of receptors at once.

Do some BRS questions for the topics in your exam and after the first 3 questions it will all come back to you

yea thats like what i do; normally i run the topics through my head so i can "see" the processes, describing them out loud etc... should i just stop studying at this point? lol

This is exactly why I have a policy of not studying the day before an exam. I front load all my studying. I would study like crazy the first week of the month. Still pretty hard the next week. Start reviewing the next week. Then have a light week for the week of the exam.

Before I adopted the front-loading studying schedule, I would freak out before an exam. I would see one random, irrelevant fact the day before and exam and freak out, convinced I was going to fail. For this reason, I wouldn't even hang out with my med school friends that day.

Also, for some odd reason, whenever I started a test, I would always see the first question and freak out. I would think "Oh no, I didn't study enough. I'm going to fail. I shouldn't be in med school. Theyre going to flunk me out." I would calm down, go to the next question and just keep going until I found a question that I was 100% sure on. That would give me the confidence I needed to get through the test. This may sound odd, but I swear I felt that way on every test I took (including both Step exams).

You'll be fine. Relax. Avoid high strung med-student friends. And have a nice workout/run/something stress relieving after the test then go out and have a few beers.

And be glad you dont have exam weeks where after 5 weeks of copious amount of material you get 4 exams in 2 days. Im pulling my first all nighter ever trying to cram for Anatomy at 8am...poor poor choice. Its taking me 10 seconds to remember what the subclavian nerve innervates...

update: me :diebanana:exam 2

some very good info/opinion/pointers i got here. just trust your capabilities and dont cram, my mind was just blank but once i sat down and saw the questions on the computers, i pwned lol

This strategy really peaks my interest. Might I ask how you generally performed on exams?

damn, that's like unprotected sleep, sleeping without an alarm. It's badass if you can do it but scary as **** the first few times.

More power to you man.

Personally, I like to keep up with the material as much as possible then spend that weekend before the test (all of our tests are on Tuesday with the Monday prior off) studying my goddamn ballsack off.

Eh, I find my way much more relaxing. I get stressed if I study the day or two before the exam. Same for both steps.
