Hi,

When you do a mini mental state exam, there's a part where you ask the patient to read and obey the following command: CLOSE YOUR EYES. Also, you have to ask them to write a sentence.

So my question is, how do you do this on the CS exam? Do you need to memorize the MMSE or is there a checklist inside the room with all the questions written on them? Is there paper for them to read the command, and to write the sentence?

Thanks!

just ask if the patient knows: who, where, and when...that way they're alert and oriented (A&OX3)

Has anyone ever had to do the mini mental status exam on the CS exam? If so, did you memorize all the components to the exam, or do they give you a checklist with all the questions?

You're not going to get a checklist, but there are probably better uses of your time than a complete mini-mental. Who, where, and when should be enough.

If you're thinking MMSE, you probably have a patient who will need a good neuro exam, so save time for that.

Just ask the follwoing:

1- Do you know who I am?
2- Do you know where you are right now?
3- Do you know what's today?

That's will give you a score Ox0 up to Ox3

other Qs:

1- I am going to name three things (stuff the pt can see in the exam room), please repeat them for me. I am going to ask you about them a few minutes later.
2- Who is the current president of the USA?
3- Spell the word "WORLD" forwards and backwards.
4- Subtract 7 from 100 backwards and serially please.
5- Please name the 3 things I named a while ago.

MMS 0/5 UP TO 5/5

That would take 3 minutes or less if you practice these well !
