Those waiting solely on Minnesota, do y'all have love from anyother schools?

Yeah...I've been accepted to NYU (which I'm very thankful for because now either way I'll be going to dental school next year) but I'm still prayin I'll get into the U.

Yeh accepted to Iowa, Indiana, and Creighton. Heading to Iowa if Minnesota does not happen so I can not really complain but would love to get into the U.

I was accepted to Temple, NYU, and ASDOH--I will be attending Temple, if I don't get into MN. Hopefully we will hear soon!

for those that got accepted in jan, when is the deadline for your deposits?

If one was accepted in Jan, they have 30 days to notify. Now, in feb., it's 15 days. So, things should start moving (hopefully).

We will update when your status changes.

I hate it when they say that! I wonder what will happen if we bug them enough, maybe they can leak some information out...and why are they so protective anyways?...its not like they're the CIA.

I called yet again today (haha i basically harass them everyday!) and betsy said there are still acceptances going out for the class and that they are not done. She implied that there are some acceptances left and that once people decline their offers, there will be more acceptances to give out.

so there is still hope! I just wanted to confirm that there will still be acceptances going out.

That does give me some confidence..But I still wonder how many people rescind their acceptance. Not like NYU where many people cancel their acceptance.

Conga-rats Paul! did u know that most people out of MN/WI area have never heard of paul bunyon? crazy huh!

Unfortunately, I talked to Nicki on Thurs afternoon and my "file was still open for review" so I must not have a letter coming with yours 🙁

And all she said was the class is not yet full and they are still working on finalizing the class as soon as possible.

to those attending MN and have access to the webportal, can you give us an update of how many confirmed names there are? THank you so much in advance!!!

Also, do you know how many they are taking in this year? Is it 97, or is it more or less?

Thanks again!

i wish they were numbered... but they aren't, so i counted 95. i don't know how many they are accepting... but people on this list could still change their minds i guess. i assume this is just a list of people who've paid their deposits.

Until May 1st people may very well be holding more than one position. The list is the most current but could have many changes post-May 1st. There can still be lots of movement on the list so don't give up hope!

if i remember, werent the deposits nonrefundable? if they are, i would assume the list is full of people pretty serious about mn.

You'd be surprised. We have four or five members of our class get in because they got called off the waitlist in mid to late August.

IM IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

😀😀😍😳😛😀

No, not really. stopped your hearts a little bit tho didnt i

I called the U last week and asked for more information regarding to the waitlist. Betsy sorta explained that it's being formed. She really didn't explain when it will be formed clearly. I know for sure that she mentioned that seats aren't fully taken and that the waitlist will be based on "what they need". She said for example, diversity....the U is looking to diversify their class so they will look at the waitlist and pull out an applicant that would qualify to diversify. So I guess the waitlist isn't ranked but based on need if you get what I'm saying.

Well, at least Betsy said that there are seats left to fill. Did she mention how many?

wow thats bullcrap... not to get too political about this crap but the idea of Affirmative Action basically just says "we're gonna pull strings and do u favors cuz u cant do it on your own"

dont respond to that cuz im not gonna get in a debate about it, i just wanted to express my anger that my race has anything to do with my strength as an applicant. reverse discrimination huh. 😡

When the U of MN talks about diversity, they aren't necessarily referring to just skin color/race. They are referring to it in terms of life experiences, majors in college, goals in dentistry and the future, EC activities, etc.

this thread is not about affirmative action. lets not turn it into one because a lot of people want to know whats going on at mn without this thread getting closed.

I agree with trixie...i don't think it has to do with skin color/ race. The U is just looking for people of different experiences.

yeah..i specifically said i didnt want to start an argument about it.

also, i understand there are other kinds of diversity, i feel like one aspect overrides the others tho.

again, being a MN born and raised student with a stable family is somehow hurting my application. without taking years between college I don't know how I was supposed to diversify my application besides my vast amount of extracurricular activities/clubs, research, jobs, and comm service I have done throughout college....which you all have done as well. 🙁

just frusterated that all of my hard work is not paying off.

What are your stats? if you don't mind me asking.

yes, i did, got other interviews, no acceptances yet, maybe im an awkward interviewy, ok spotlight off of me, i just had a little temper tantrum!

gl to everyone, and if we end up taking a year off im sure it will be an awesome time and a chance to do things weve never had the time to do! (for those of u not accepted anywhere else either)

where else did you interview at?

3.6, 20/20/19

i know im not the pick of the litter but i worked hard, had a job all of college, and all the other good stuff

If it doesn't work out this round, you can always try again next year. If you end up trying again next cycle, call Nikki in Admissions and get her advice on your application. That really helped me. I applied twice before I got accepted.

I hope it works out this year for you this year, but if not, a year "off" is not the end of the world, if you have your heart set on MN.

i thought the deadline was up for people who were accepted in January. Why hasn't the school been sending out letters?

I know, those are my exact thoughts.

I hope it's not where they have already sent out letters, but to people that neither of us know of. And I really hope it's not the case to where their in-state spots are all filled up, and they just have a couple seats reserved for out-of state residents.

Or maybe (the most optimistic possibility) it's taking them a while longer to select their final candidates since there are so many good applicants vying for those seats; and we will get letters at the end of this week/early next week?🙂xf🙂

I also hope they're taking a bit longer to figure things out..but c'mon..how much time do they need. They have reviewed and re-reviewed x 100 our applications.

Or, maybe they sent letters out today so they reach us on Friday, because I think they have their meetings on Wed.
