Are you asking this because you're hoping Canadians are classified as minorities? 😉

I'm hoping the Polish are classified as minorities 🙂

I dont think Polish would classify as a "minority".

My guess is that optometry schools consider someone a minority if they are not of white/European descent. Thus, minorities would be everyone else- Asians, blacks, hispanics, native american Indians, arabs, etc...

That's reasonable...but do you guys think that being of European descent or being bilingual helps in the application process?

I once heard that being bilingual sometimes puts you into a disadvantage..although that was from a computer science co op program.

alright..thanx..I guess I'm classified as "minority".. but then..seems kinda odd that they put such category tho...I really dont' want to ask is it more advantagous or disadvantagous to put one self as minority or not..but in a way..I do wanna know. heh..what do u guys think?

Hey Katalio,
Do you know why bilingualism would put you at an disadvantage for Comp Sci coop? that sounds really bizarre. Did they assume that a bilingual person would not have absolute fluency in english?

WEll, this is actually coming from my friend's employer at a Cpsc co op..so you might want to reconsider the validity of it. I'm not sure, but appearantly, they tend to screen off some of the bi-linguals while scrolling through resume.

I would say that being bilingual is definitely a plus. Some schools even ask in their application form if you speak any languages other than English.

I'm trilingual and the interviewers where I interviewed asked me about it and thought it was interesting/advantageous. 😀 So, I think it's definitely an advantage.

I would definitely said it's a plus too..but that's what I heard..so....
I think poly-lingual <--dunno if therez such world ... is so important to doctors as well....
