MIS Bariatrics and Advanced GI Fellowships Interview Thread 2015

I feel like I'm in the same boat as many on this forum. I just heard from U of Nebraska. I've heard from 7 programs. NO rejections. Seems like it should be courtesy to send rejection and I think I would rather be rejected than show up and be nowhere in rank list. Out of curiosity, do you guys think when you submitted the application matters in terms of when you hear from these programs? I submitted my application on December 26th and recommendation letters slowly trickled in(last one came in yesterday haha).

I haven't heard from a few programs yet either. I agree that a rejection would be nice.
I submitted early and had all of my letters early, but I also applied to one program late and received an invite a day or two after applying to them. So I'm not sure that it matters at all programs on early versus late app.

Spruce I dont think applying on 28 Dec will be a red flag. You heard from programs who liked your profile. I think if you have not heard from programs its because you or the program does not match up which is good.

Since yesterday, I have gotten a few more invites from programs who are already on the compiled list above. Don't get discouraged yet. I'm not sure if they are inviting as they go through apps rather than all at once. I have also emailed a couple of the listed programs, and they are still reviewing apps. This includes Ohio State, UWashington, UIowa who are still reviewing apps and will send after final reviews.

That is crazy. I've heard that MIS continues to get more competitive every year, guess it's true. Has anyone heard how many people programs interview for each spot? Or conversely what number of interviews do you need to do to have a good shot at matching?

With only 2 weeks left to offer interviews I still haven't heard from 13 of the programs I applied to. 10 of them are not listed here. I think it will be a difficult match and programs are aware of this. Multiple PD's have told me to contact them at rank list time to let them know if I'm ranking them highly! As a rule if you're interviewing you're doing well and for gen surg residency 10 interviews gives you a high statistical probability of matching (probably same or better odds for fellowship).

I think its a very tough match. 20 apicants interviwed today for 1 spot. Man if you have 10 or 5 interviwes it does not matter, all it takes 1 interview to match.
