i submitted my amcas primary for 20-21 cycle and am in the process of submitting secondaries. i just found out that a jay walking ticket i received in 2017 is considered a misdemeanor in my state. i want to be transparent and report it but am afraid the update i will send will get me thrown out of consideration for schools. they might think i knowingly lied on my primary or think that i cant follow directions. or i can wait until it comes up in my background check and explain it then? then i risk getting my acceptance taken away (assuming i even get one lol) everyone in my life is telling me different things. i want to do the right thing and report now. anyone have any experience with this or know of anyone that does?

There is no question you need to report it but it probably won't sink your app. In most big cities, jaywalking is pretty much standard pedestrian traffic. I think most adcoms would get a laugh out of a state classifying it as a misdemeanor and understand why you didn't report it initially due to ignorance of a ridiculous law.
