I'm a little nervous about doing my background check. Nothing serious I don't think, but who knows?

The first one was skiing out of bounds in an avalanche area.
The other was tresspassing (long story, basically my state changed the law so you could no longer walk in the river bottom through someones property, and I had no idea they changed it.

I could expunge both of them but I don't want to keep my school waiting 6 months before I officially accept. Does anyone have inside info on how a school may look at these charges? I hope I am just overreacting.

This is a problem best and most easily cleared by calling up the schools.

in the chance that it does make a difference, isn't it obvious why I don't want to call them?

I can get both of them expunged, but I also don't want to leave them hanging for 5-6 months.

The only reason they do this criminal background check is to make sure you aren't someone who might harm the patient. They sift for domestic violence or any assault on another person. Considering both of your minor offenses, I wouldn't mind having you as my dentist.

So you would have already had to deny having any charges on your AADSAS application? If that is true then I would be more worried about having lied to the school.

If those are misdemeanors, I hope you put them down on the AADSAS app or else you are in trouble... You must tell them EVERYTHING!

how much pabst you have?????? better of been tha'shine!

You might as well put you got a speeding ticket, and drank alcohol illegally.

Not quite, they do the screening to avoid any problems upon applying for state licensure after graduation, and the child abuse history clearance must be processed for the students to partake in community outreach.

U are only required to list convictions on aadsas. Were u convicted of these charges?

Shooting star is right. If you were charged but got the charges were deferred (probably deferred adjudication: pay a fine and community service) then it will not count as a conviction; therefore, you do not have to report this. My best friend's sister is a lawyer and she confirmed this. So it doesn't matter if you were charged as long as the charges were deferred and you do not have an official conviction on your record. I hope this helps!

This is pretty much what I was told by another pre-dent. Both times I just received a fine that I paid and my freind said it no dental school would have a problem with it if it showed up. So I did not put it on my AADSAS. I am just nervous and I don't want to surprise my school if that is not accurate.

It's been long enough so I can have them both expunged but that takes 5-6 months.

I just got off the phone with my brother in law who is an attorney and he agrees there is nothing to disclose unless I was convicted. He gave me the number for his freind who is a criminal defense lawyer. Ill double check with him tomorrow.

Why don't you run a criminal background check on yourself just to be sure? Also, I'm pretty sure you only have 30 days to notify the school of your decision before their offer expires.

👍 I second that. Yes, it may cost money but it will give you peace of mind. I am sure it is not there, and your offenses are very minor anyway.

If u had to pay a fine, that means you were convicted. A person who is found innocent is not punished for the crime..

Note: However minor an offense might be, it cannot go unreported in your application. Disclosure is important at this stage and at all stages of a career in dentistry or medicine.
