Misreading answer choices

How do you all avoid this? In the example posted, by "exercise" I interpreted it to mean the action of hyperventilating before the competition and hence got it wrong.

It is an ambiguous word choice, but they were using "Exercise" in the more common definition.

More importantly is that the question was testing your understanding of hyperventilation, where there is a significant change in pCO2 but not in pO2. I believe you chose the answer on the assumption that hyperventilation would increase pO2 levels, but it won't to a significant degree. That makes 3 answer choices wrong "unconsciousness".
