Miss USA contestants. Evolution taught in schools?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Several Christians in this thread have already mentioned that this is the most common Christian belief. Not sure why you would think it's so rare.

It is only the mainstream belief of Catholics, Lutherans, and Anglicans/Episcopalians. However, it is not the mainstream belief of most other churches in the US, nor the most vocal and politically active ones, especially the Evangelicals and born again Christians.

Thus, it is more common on the coasts of the nation, and the urban midwest, but you would be hard pressed to find such a liberal position in the deep south or the fly-over states.

Actually it's common among Jehovas witnesses and mormons as well. As already discussed in this thread, it is the mainstream belief overall and most major Christian religions have an official stance that accepts evolution. You are correct that it is not the more politically vocal of the two. However, it truly is a minority of Christians in the US that is in denial of evolution and yes, they tend to be concentrated in particular areas of the country.

EDIT: apparently it's still about 50/50. In the 2010 Gallup poll 40% said creationism (God made man in his present form), 38% said God guided evolution, and 16% said evolution alone. So neither is a particular majority at the moment apparently. However, most major denomination leaders (With a few exceptions) have released official acceptance of evolution.

Someone really likes bananas. God has placed a tab at the top of the banana. No word on the pineapple, which was created by the Devil.

It's triple funny because, this is a wild banana:

And these guys (from Papua New Guinea) used evolution (e.g selective breeding), to make it into what we eat:

Is he God? Certainly has the calves. I vote yes.

The Devil had a very good reason for creating the pineapple, though:

i think its funny when people say evolution is just a theory. the term theory in science is the highest form of proof we can get. but creationists throw it around to cause confusion and cast doubt.

My mother does not know virtually anything about evolution. She works in systems testing for a well known bank, makes a lot of money, and if she ever gets sick of working there she has many offers on the table.

Is she a foolish quack?

Does she think evilution is wrong? If so, then yes. Read below.

I assume not understanding something is not the same as refusing to understand something.

If you simply don't know anything about evolution, and end it there, then that is fine. If you know about evolution, but refuse to believe it, then that is were you are being "foolish".

Nah, they are making claims outside their realms of expertise.

Thus, they are scientific bafoons to the fullest extent possible.

"I don't know **** about this "theory," but, it is wrong!"

So... what's wrong with teaching evolution as a theory (GRAVITY IS NOT RELATED TO EVOLUTION WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?! /rant)? And Creationism as another (If you don't believe in God, you can't in any way be forced to believe if it's fact or not. Reading the Bible forwards and backwards will not suddenly enlighten you)? What's wrong with giving people a choice, or a chance to rationalize. I could continue and write an essay-length debate but it's 3am.

Bash on, dear fellow ignorants, bash on. I'm glad since you all agree with each other, you've taken the freedom to congregate here and say *some* of thee stupidest claims I've ever heard. Again, I could write out a coherent argument but my eyes are drooping and brain hurts because, previous to this, I read a troll thread. I wish I could leave this post without stating any sides but by reading my sig I know many of you will jump to conclusions, and that can't be helped. Ah well--bash on.

Gosh, you are either the most successful troll ever, or have just raised the bar.

There is a small(but still vocal) movement of people claiming the Holocaust did not happen. Or if the Holocaust did happen, it was not nearly as severe as the Jewish controlled media proclaimed it to be.

Should we teach the controversy as well?
