Ok so after reading a few posts about how it is important to have a LOR from a PI if you list research as an experience. SO my question is that does not having a LOR from other experiences raise a red flag too. My premed advisor said he usually includes 3 of the best LORs, so I pretty much requested 4 LOR of my most recent activities that I knew were going to be good. However, I decided not to request LOR for older activities, such as chemistry tutor(university organization employed me), soup kitchen volunteer, and a few other things.

I am certain that there is no expectation that you have a letter from your boss for the tutoring job, a soup kitchen, or any similar experiences. In fact, unless you did something absolutely extraordinary in one of those roles, it could be harmful to have too many letters from activities like those.

I would consider this distinct from the PI situation.
