Electrophile, Yeah I know about gaining residency after a year. Its one of the main reasons I am considering Mizzou along with CSU. You have said yourself that you wished you went to CSU though. Everyone at Mizzou was so nice and enthusiastic about the program. The facilities and the curiculum also looks really good. I especially like the two years of practical experience. I really don't know how I am going to pick a school. They are all so good.
I lived in Colorado (Aurora) for a little less than a year when I was in 8th grade and LOVED it. Loved every minute! Every time I go back to visit for vacations to go snowboarding, hiking, etc, I just feel really right being out there. I'm a big mountains person. Give me the mountains over the beach any day! That was one reason.
They also have a more holistic focus, which I am definitely interested in. Though on the other hand, because there are less folks interested in holistic/integrative medicine here at Mizzou, I can spread the word a bit more than no one ever hearing much about it. Sometimes it helps to branch out beyond just being around like minded people all the time.
😀 But once I get to clinical free blocks, I can certainly pursue preceptorships with vets with a more holistic focus. Heck, I may go out to Colorado to do some of it.
😎
The third thing is that since I did undergrad and grad school here, you can sometimes be accused of getting "academically inbred." Like they want you to go to different places for different experiences, that sort of thing. I don't mind so much because I knew a handful of the vet school faculty from working or collaborating with them during grad school, so it probably didn't hurt trying to get in. But yeah, if I do an internship (probably won't) or a residency (probably will), it definitely can't be at Missouri.
So yeah, I'm enjoying vet school here much more this semester than last semester and all and I would have preferred to go to CSU, but finances and the husband's wishes to stay put were difficult to get around. *shrug* No biggie! Go where you feel comfortable and that you can realistically afford.
